A couple of tight games and a couple of blowouts. A big inning carries Culican and Los Mochis.
NAVOJOA 2, GUASAVE 1 IN GUASAVE
Navojoa: Luis Fonseca was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fifth. Jose Chavez was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run. Eddie Gamboa pitched six shutout innings, giving up two hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Guasave: Gabriel Gutierrez was 2-for-3 with a walk. Jose Rodriguez was 1-for-4 with a home run, his sixth. Marco Tovar struck out ten in six shutout innings, allowing two hits and four walks.
The game: There was no score until the eighth, when Fonseca hit a two-run homer to give Navojoa a 2-0 lead. Rodriguez homered in the bottom of the eighth to make it 2-1. And that was it. Guasave did get a man to first with two out in the ninth.
CULIACAN 5, MAZATLAN 4 IN MAZATLAN
Culiacan: Ricardo Serrano was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Emmanuel Valdez was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two. Andres Meza pitched seven innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
Mazatlan: Henry Mateo was 3-for-5 with two triples and two RBIs. Mike Wilson (Cincinnati) was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Oswaldo Morejon was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.
The game: Culiacan got all five runs in the first, getting an error, three singles, a two-run double by Valdez, and another single. Mazatlan scored single runs in the third and fourth. In the ninth, Mateo hit a two-run triple with one out, putting the tying run on third base, but he did not score.
OBREGON 5, HERMOSILLO 1 IN OBREGON
Hermosillo: Heber Gomez was 1-for-3 with a run. Edgar Gonzalez pitched six innings, giving up three runs on five hits and no walks.
Obregon: Sergio Contreras (San Diego) was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run (his third), scoring twice and driving in two. Dan Robertson was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. David Reyes pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Agustin Murillo doubled to give Obregon a 1-0 lead in the first. A sacrifice fly in the second made it 2-0 and an RBI single by Contreras in the sixth made it 3-0. Hermosillo got its lone run in the top of the eighth, but in the bottom of the eighth Carlos Valencia and Contreras hit back-to-back homers to put the game out of reach.
LOS MOCHIS 8, MEXICALI 0 IN MEXICALI
Los Mochis: Rodolfo Amador was 2-for-4 with a home run. Gilberto Mejia was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Tomas Solis pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
Mexicali: Chris Roberson was 2-for-4 with a double. Ricky Alvarez was 2-for-4. Omar Espinoza struck out four in 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits and one walk.
The game: It was scoreless until the fourth, when Los Mochis broke through with seven. They had six singles in the inning, but also benefited from two walks, three errors, and a wild pitch. Mejia had a two-run single in the inning. Mexicali got a runner as far as third base in the seventh and the ninth.
