Venezuelan View: Games of 11/29

Oswaldo Arcia has drawn nineteen walks.  A big tenth inning carries Aragua.  A see-saw game in La Guaira.

ARAGUA 7, MARGARITA 2 IN MARGARITA (10 INNINGS)

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Dakota Watts (Aragua) pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up no runs on one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

Aragua:  Yangervis Solarte was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Wilson Ramos (Washington) was 2-for-6 with a double and a run.  Yorman Bazardo pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Margarita:  Manny Pina was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Alberto Gonzalez was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.  Frank Del Valle (Cubs) struck out seven in six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks.

The game:  A sacrifice fly and a Solarte double put Aragua ahead 2-0 in the top of the second.  Pina's RBI single made it 2-1 after two.  It stayed there until the ninth, when Pina delivered another RBI single to tie it.  In the tenth, the first six Aragua batters reached base, with Guillermo Quiroz (San Francisco) giving Aragua the lead with a two-run single.  Runs also scored on an error, a sacrifice fly, and a single by Ray Olmedo.

ZULIA 2, ANZOATEGUI 1 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Miguel Sulbaran (Anzoategui) pitched a third of an inning, giving up no hits and one walk.

Anzoategui:  Niuman Romero was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Anthony Capra pitched four innings, giving up one run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Zulia:  Sandy Leon (Washington) was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Ender Inciarte (Arizona) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Alex Torres (Tampa Bay) struck out four in 4.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits and four walks.

The game:  Inciarte doubled in the first and scored on a pair of outs to give Zulia a 1-0 lead.  Anzoategui tied it in the fifth on four consecutive one-out walks.  In the bottom of the fifth, Freddy Galvis delivered a two-out RBI single to put Zulia back up 2-1.  Anzoategui got the tying run into scoring position in the sixth and seventh.

LA GUAIRA 7, LARA 6 IN LA GUAIRA

Twins:  Yorman Landa (La Guaira) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Lara:  Guilder Rodriguez (Texas) was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Joe Thurston was 1-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Frank Mata pitched three shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks.

La Guaira:  Alex Cabrera was 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, his sixteenth.  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring twice.  Mario Hollands (Philadelphia) struck out three in 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks.

The game:  A two-run homer by Cesar Suares keyed a three-run first for La Guaira.  The lead was short-lived, as Lara came back in the second with a two-run double by Rodriguez that capped a four-run outburst that put Lara ahead 4-3.  La Guaira came back itself in the bottom of the second with two runs on a throwing error to make it 5-4 La Guaira.  It stayed there until the seventh, when Thurston homered to tie it up and Oswaldo Navarro singled in the go-ahead run to make it 6-5 Lara.  In the bottom of the seventh, La Guaira came back again on a two-run homer by Cabrera to go ahead 7-6.  Lara could not come back again, as they were retired in order in the eighth and ninth.

CARACAS 11, MAGALLANES 7 IN MAGALLANES

Caracas:  Gregorio Petit was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run (his sixth), driving in three.  Gerardo Parra (Arizona) was 3-for-6 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.  Alex Gonzalez was 1-for-4 with a walk and a home run (his second), scoring twice and driving in two.

Magallanes:  Juan Rivera was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Ramon Hernandez was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring twice.  Endy Chavez (Seattle) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Each team scored once in the first.  That was it until the fourth, when a bases-loaded walk, a sacrifice fly, and a two-run single by Adonis Garcia (Yankees) put Magallanes ahead 5-1.  A two-run homer by Gonzalez keyed a three-run fifth to cut the lead to 5-4.  In the seventh, an error tied the score, a bases-loaded walk put Caracas ahead, and a sacrifice fly, a single, and a double made it 9-5 Caracas.  Magallanes never got closer than three runs after that.
