Perth: Tim Kennelly (Philadelphia) was 3-for-4 with a run. Matt Kennelly (Atlanta) was 1-for-3 with a home run (his third) and three RBIs. Jack Frawley pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Brisbane: Joshua Roberts was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his second. David Sutherland was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Rhys Niit pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks with one strikeout.
The game: Roberts homered in the first to give Brisbane a 1-0 lead. Matt Kennelly hit a two-run homer and George Barber had an RBI double in the second to put Perth up 3-1. Single runs for Brisbane in the fourth and fifth tied the score. It stayed tied until the eighth, when Brandon Tripp doubled, went to third on a single, and scored on a sacrifice fly. The game was halted after eight innings.

Brisbane: Joey Rickard (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one. Ryan Battaglia (Cleveland) was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth. Ryan Searle (Cubs) struck out six in five innings, allowing four hits and no walks.
The game: In the first inning, Rickard tripled in a run and scored on a ground out to give Brisbane a 2-0 lead. The other run came on Battaglia's homer in the seventh. Perth did not get a man past second base.
MELBOURNE 3, ADELAIDE 0 IN MELBOURNE (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Adelaide: Stefan Welch (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3. John Cannon (Dodgers) was 1-for-3 with a double. Fu-Te Ni pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
Melbourne: Ryan Casteel (Oakland) was 1-for-3 with a home run, his fourth. John Hussey (San Diego) pitched six innings, allowing five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
The game: Casteel's homer in the fifth opened the scoring. Melbourne closed the scoring in the next inning, the sixth, on an RBI single by Brad Harman and a ground out. Adelaide's biggest scoring threat came in the fourth, when Brock Hebert (Seattle) was thrown out trying to score from second on a single.
MELBOURNE 5, ADELAIDE 4 IN MELBOURNE (GAME 2--11 INNINGS--SCHEDULED 9 INNINGS)
Adelaide: Stefan Welch (Pittsburgh) was 3-for-4 with a walk and a run. John Cannon (Dodgers) was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. James Campbell (Dodgers)pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
Melbourne: Tyler Massey (Colorado) was 3-for-6 with an RBI. Komei Fujisawa was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Justin Erasmus pitched four shutout innings of relief, allowing two hits and two walks.
The game: Each team scored one in the first and each team scored one in the second. Cannon doubled in a run in the third to give Adelaide a 3-2 lead, but Melbourne came back with a two-run triple by Fujisawa in the fourth to go ahead 4-3. An RBI ground out tied it in the seventh. In the eleventh, Justin Trapp (Kansas City) drew a leadoff walk, went to second on a bunt, and scored on a single to left by Massey.
SYDNEY 8, CANBERRA 1 IN CANBERRA
Sydney: Joshua Dean was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two. Zach Shepherd was 2-for-2 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one. Aaron Sookee (Angels) pitched 6.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Canberra: Jason Sloan was 2-for-3.
The game: Canberra's lone run came in the first inning, when Jon Berti (Toronto) walked, stole second, stole third, and scored on a throwing error. An RBI ground out tied it in the third. In the sixth, a bases-loaded walk, an RBI groundout, and a run-scoring single by Trent Schmutter gave Sydney a 4-1 lead. Sydney added a run in the eighth and put the game out of reach with three in the ninth.
