A see-saw game in Mexicali. A game-winning homer was right up Solis' Ali. The Fox says Los Mochis wins.
MEXICALI 5, MAZATLAN 4 IN MEXICALI
Mazatlan: Blake Gailen was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his sixth), scoring twice and driving in two. Curt Smith was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run. Walter Silva pitched five innings, giving up only two runs despite five hits and seven walks.
Mexicali: Ramon Rios was 1-for-2 with two walks and a home run, scoring twice. Chris Roberson was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Edgar Osuna pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
The game: A sacrifice fly and an Oscar Robles double put Mexicali ahead 2-0 in the second. Mazatlan tied it in the fourth on an RBI double by Gailen and a run-scoring single by Gilberto Galaviz. Each team scored once in the sixth. Smith homered to put Mazlatlan on top 4-3 in the seventh, but in the eighth Rios homered to tie it and a sacrifice fly brought home the go-ahead run. Mazatlan got the tying run to third with two out in the ninth.
CULIACAN 6, GUASAVE 3 IN GUASAVE (11 INNINGS)
Culiacan: Ronnier Mustelier (Yankees) was 5-for-6 with two doubles and two RBIs. Ali Solis (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-5 with a three run homer (his fifth) and three RBIs. Carlos Alvarez was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.
Guasave: Mark Hamilton was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his seventh. Jesus Lopez was 2-for-4. Brodie Downs pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks with one strikeout.
The game: Mustelier had an RBI single in the third to make it 1-0 and a wild pitch and another Mustelier RBI single in the fifth made it 3-0 Culiacan .Hamilton hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth and Jose Rodriguez singled in a run in the sixth to tie the score. It stayed tied until the eleventh, when Solis hit a three-run homer to put Culiacan in control. Guasave went down in order in the last of the eleventh.
LOS MOCHIS 6, OBREGON 1 IN LOS MOCHIS
Obregon: Agustin Murillo was 2-for-4. Alfredo Amezaga was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Iker Franco was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Los Mochis: Jake Fox was 2-for-4 with a home run (his tenth), scoring twice and driving in four. Ramon Orantes was 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run homer, his fourth. Tomas Solis pitched seven innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits and two walks with one strikeout.
The game: Fox singled in one and Orantes hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give Los Mochis a 3-0 lead. An error scored the lone Obregon run in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1, but in the bottom of the fifth Fox hit a three-run homer to put the game out of reach.
HERMOSILLO 7, NAVOJOA 1 IN HERMOSILLO
Navojoa: Jon Weber was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jose Oyervidez pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Hermosillo: Yunesky Sanchez was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run. Luis Garcia was 1-for-2 with two walks and a double, scoring once and driving in one. Hector Galvan pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit and six walks with three strikeouts.
The game: Weber doubled in a run with none out in the first inning, but it was the only run Navojoa got. It held up until the fourth, when Garcia doubled in a run and scored on a pair of ground outs to put Hermosillo ahead 2-1. Hermosillo put it away with a five-run seventh, with Navojoa making three errors in the inning.
