Home runs carry Santurce. Caguas leads all the way.
SANTURCE 4, PONCE 2 IN PONCE
Santurce: Jeff Dominguez was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in two. Jonathan Singleton (Houston) was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his eighth. Joseph Colon (Cleveland) pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
Ponce: Reymond Fuentes (San Diego) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Jonathan Mota (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
The game: Dominguez doubled in a run in the second to give Santurce a 1-0 lead. Ponce tied it in the fourth on an RBI single by Jordan Lennerton (Detroit). Dominguez homered in the fifth to put Santurce back on top 2-1 and a two-run homer by Singleton made it 4-1 after six. Ponce got one back in the eighth and loaded the bases with one out, but their last five batters were retired.
CAGUAS 4, CAROLINA 2 IN CAROLINA
Caguas: Miguel Abreu was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Andy Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Michael Nix pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
Carolina: Osvaldo Martinez (Dodgers) was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run. Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fifth. Brett Brach (Cleveland) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks with one strikeout.
The game: Jorge Padilla put Caguas on the board with an RBI single in the first inning. A run-scoring double by Gonzalez and a sacrifice fly made it 3-0 after three. Garcia homered in the fourth to make it 3-1, but Caguas got the run back on an error in the sixth. Martinez tripled and scored in the eighth to make it 4-2. Carolina got the tying run up to bat with two out in the eighth, but their last four batters were retired.
