Twins: Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-4. Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-3 with a run.
Ponce: Benji Gonzalez (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs. Jordan Lennerton (Detroit) was 1-for-2 with two walks and a double. Giancarlo Alvarado struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up three hits and three walks.
Mayaguez: Michael Taylor (Oakland) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a triple. Martin Maldonado (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a double. Hiram Burgos (Milwaukee) struck out five in five innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk.
The game: Ponce scored single runs in the second and sixth to go ahead 2-0, The lone Mayaguez run came in the eighth.
CAROLINA 16, CAGUAS 6 IN CAROLINA
Caguas: Johnny Monell (Baltimore) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his fourth), scoring twice. Miguel Abreu (Philadelphia) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Juan Silva (Cincinnati) was 1-for-5 with a home run, his third.
Carolina: Ruben Gotay was 4-for-5 with a walk, two doubles, and a home run (his second), scoring five times and driving in three. Enrique Hernandez (Houston) was 3-for-4 with two walks and a double, scoring four times. Ty'Relle Harris struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing no hits and one walk.
The game: Carolina scored four in the first inning, but Caguas came back with three in the second and one in the third to tie it up. Carolina got the lead back with three in the bottom of the third, added two in the fourth, and put the game out of reach with five in the fifth.
