Twins: Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-2 with a walk.
Santurce: Adron Chambers was 2-for-4. John Rodriguez was 2-for-4. Jorge Martinez pitched eight innings, giving up one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts.
Mayaguez: Irving Falu (Milwaukee) was 1-for-3. He had the only Mayaguez hit, a single. Jeremy Kehrt (Boston) struck out six in six innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks.
The game: Santurce scored in the first inning on a Jeff Dominguez RBI single and made the stand up the rest of the game. Falu's single came on the first plate appearance of the game for Mayaguez. Mayaguez did not get a man past first base and had their last twenty-three batters retired.
CAROLINA 5, PONCE 4 IN CAROLINA
Ponce: Jonathan Mota (Cubs) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer. Geraldo Valentin was 1-for-3 with a walk and a triple, driving in two. Jordan Lennerton (Detroit) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.
Carolina: Luis Matos was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two. Osvaldo Martinez (Dodgers) was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.
The game: Matos doubled in two in the first to give Carolina the early 2-0 lead. Ponce tied it in the third on Valentin's two-run triple. Each team scored two in the fourth to keep the score tied, this time at four. Martinez delivered a two-out RBI double in the sixth to give Carolina a 5-4 advantage. Ponce got a pair of one-out walks in the ninth but could not do anything with them.
