GUASAVE 2, HERMOSILLO 1 IN GUASAVE (11 INNINGS)
Hermosillo: Jerry Owens was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Bryan Evans pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
Guasave: Zelous Wheeler (Yankees) was 2-for-3 with two walks. Leonardo Heras was 2-for-5 with a run. Juan Delgadillo pitched 7.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit and three walks with six strikeouts.
The game: It was scoreless until the seventh, when Jose Manuel Rodriguez singled in a run to give Guasave a 1-0 lead. Hermosillo tied it in the eighth Owens delivered an RBI single. It stayed tied until the eleventh, when a walk, a bunt, an intentional walk, and a Japhet Amador (Houston) single won the game for Guasave.
OBREGON 9, MAZATLAN 7 IN MAZATLAN
Obregon: Daniel Castro (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his second. Said Gutierrez was 1-for-5 with a grand slam, his fourth homer. Alfredo Amezaga was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.
Mazatlan: Blake Gailen was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Ivan Terrazas was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Miguel Aguilar pitched two shutout innings, allowing no hits and one walk.
The game: Gailen's two-run double capped a three-run first to give Mazatlan a 3-1 lead. Obregon scored one in the second and took the lead in the third on a two-run homer by Carlos Valencia. Gailen singled in a run in the bottom of the third to tie the score at four. Obregon appeared to take control with a five-run fifth, including a Gutierrez grand slam. Mazatlan came back with three in the seventh and had men on first and third with one out, but a double play ended the inning. Mazatlan did not get a man past first base after that.
LOS MOCHIS 8, MEXICALI 3 IN LOS MOCHIS
Mexicali: Ben Guez (Detroit) was 1-for-3 with a home run (his seventh) and two RBIs. Xorge Carrillo (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a double. Misael Silverio struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks.
Los Mochis: Brian Burgamy was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run (his thirteenth), scoring three times and driving in two. Jake Fox was 1-for-4 with a home run (his eleventh) and two RBIs. Fredy Quintero pitched five innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Each team scored in the second and each team scored in the third, leaving the score tied at two. Ramon Orantes singled in a run in the sixth to give Los Mochis the lead. Los Mochis then put the game out of reach with four in the seventh. A walk, five singles, and a sacrifice fly produced the runs.
