Australian Audit: Games of 1/3

Logan Wade leads Brisbane to victory.  Trapp v. Tripp in Melbourne.  Lodge is large in Adelaide.

BRISBANE 5, SYDNEY 4 IN BRISBANE

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Sydney:  Jacob May (White Sox) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer (his third), scoring twice.  Michael Lysaught was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Brisbane:  Ryan Battaglia (Cleveland) was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Andrew Campbell was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Tristan Crawford struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks.

The game:  An error put Sydney on the board in the first.  In the fourth, a walk, a hit batsman, and another walk loaded the bases for Brisbane and Wade delivered a three-run triple to make it 3-1 Brisbane.  May's two-run homer in the fifth tied the score and Lysaught doubled in a run in the seventh to put Sydney back up 4-3.  David Sutherland had an RBI single in the eight to tie it up again, this time at four.  In the tenth, Battaglia came through with a two-out RBI single to win the game for Brisbane.

MELBOURNE 2, PERTH 1 IN MELBOURNE

Perth:  Brandon Tripp was 1-for-3 with a home run, his sixth.  Anthony Claggett pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Melbourne:  Ryan Casteel (Colorado) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Justin Trapp (Kansas City) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Joe Burns (Texas) pitched eight innings, allowing one run on two hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

The game:  It was scoreless until the seventh, when a sacrifice fly and a Jarryd Rogers RBI single gave Melbourne a 2-0 lead.  Tripp homered to lead off the eighth and cut the lead to 2-1.  Perth had the tying run on the third with two out in the eighth, but their last six batters went out.

ADELAIDE 9, CANBERRA 7 IN ADELAIDE

Adelaide:  Ben Lodge was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Jeremy Cresswell was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.  Kyle Brueggemann pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Canberra:  Jon Berti (Toronto) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jeremy Barnes was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  Jeff Lyman pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk.

The game:  Adelaide broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the third inning.  John Cannon (Dodgers) doubled in one, Cresswell singled in antoher, Byron Willey tripled in two, and Stefan Welch (Boston) doubled in one.  It stayed 5-0 until the sixth, when Casey Frawley tripled in a run and scored on a Barnes single.  Canberra got two more in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4 on Barnes' two-run double.  A Lodge RBI double and a run-scoring single by Angus Roeger put Adelaide up 7-4, but an RBI double by Antonio Callaway and Berti's two-run double tied it at seven.  In the ninth, Adelaide finally went in to the lead to stay when Brock Hebert (Seattle) homered and Lodge singled in an insurance run.
