MAYAGUEZ 4, CAGUAS 3 IN CAGUAS (11 INNINGS)
Twins: Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 2-for-6 with an RBI. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 1-for-5. Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Mayaguez: Dee Gordon (Dodgers) was 4-for-5 with a walk and two triples, scoring once and driving in one. Randy Ruiz was 1-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Kanekoa Texeira pitched struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.
Caguas: Ramon Castro was 1-for-3 with two runs. Jorge Padilla was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. Shaun Garceau pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing four hits and no walks with one strikeout.
The game: In the first, Rosario singled in a run, a second run scored on an infield out, and a third run came in on an Ortiz single to put Mayaguez up 3-0. They did not score again for ten innings. Meanwhile, Caguas got a run in the fourth on an infield out and scored two in the sixth on Padilla's RBI single and a sacrifice fly to tie the score at three. There was no more scoring until the eleventh, when Ortiz singled and scored on Gordon's triple. Caguas put men on first and second with one out but did not get any farther.
PONCE 6, CAROLINA 2 IN PONCE
Carolina: Ruben Gotay (Cincinnati) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run. Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 1-for-4 with a run.
Ponce: Reymond Fuentes (San Diego) was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in one. Henry Ramos (Boston) was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Giancarlo Alvarado pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits and four walks with one strikeout.
The game: An RBI single by Ivan De Jesus and a two-run single by Ramos put Ponce in the lead 3-0 after one. In the second, Fuentes tripled in a run and scored on a Benji Gonzalez (Pittsburgh) single to make it 5-0. Carolina never threatened to get back into the game.
