Day four of the playoffs.  A late rally carries Anzoategui.  Caracas takes control late.

ANZOATEGUI 6, ZULIA 4 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.

Anzoategui:  Niuman Romero was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Oscar Salazar was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Gustavo Molina was 1-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Zulia:  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Roy Merritt pitched five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Zulia got an RBI single from Pirela and scored two on an error in the first inning to go ahead 3-0.  It stayed there until the fifth, when Salazar doubled in two to cut the lead to 3-2.  A wild pitch tied the score in the seventh, but Zulia got the lead back in the bottom of the seventh on Galvis' RBI single.  In the eighth, Anzoategui took its first lead of the game on a two-out two-run single by Romero and got an insurance run on a run-scoring single by Gorkys Hernandez (Kansas City).  Zulia did not get a man past first the rest of the game.

CARACAS 11, LA GUAIRA 1 IN CARACAS

La Guaira:  Joe Thurston was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Heiker Meneses (Boston) was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Cesar Suarez was 1-for-3 with a double.

Caracas:  Bobby Abreu was 1-for-3 with two walks and a grand slam (his third homer), scoring twice.  Yangervis Solarte was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Victor Garate struck out six in 4.1 scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and no walks.

The game:  Jesus Guzman (Houston) homered in the first to give Caracas a 1-0 lead.  La Guaira tied it in the third on Thurston's RBI double.  Caracas got the lead back when Alex Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the fourth.  It stayed 3-1 until the seventh, when Solarte hit a two-run double and scored on a Gregorio Petit single to make the score 6-1.  Caracas added five in the eighth, four of the on Abreu's grand slam, to put the game out of reach.
