MAYAGUEZ 3, CAGUAS 0 IN CAGUAS
Twins: Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3 with a walk. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-4. Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice.
Mayaguez: Irving Falu (Milwaukee) was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jonathan Albaladejo struck out seven in six innings, giving up two hits and one walk.
Caguas: Juan Silva (Cincinnati) was 2-for-3. Michael Nix pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Ortiz broke a scoreless tie with a fifth-inning homer and put Mayaguez ahead 1-0. Mayaguez added a pair of insurance runs with Falu's two-run double in the eighth. Caguas came closest to scoring in the fourth, when they had a man on third with none out, and in the eighth, when they had men on first and third with one out.
PONCE 2, CAROLINA 0 IN PONCE
Carolina: Jobduan Morales (Houston) was 1-for-4 with a double. Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 2-for-4. Willie Collazo pitched 4.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Ponce: Rene Rivera (San Diego) was 2-for-2 with a double and a run. Ivan De Jesus (Baltimore) was 0-for-0 with three walks. Giancarlo Alvarado pitched six innings, allowing four hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
The game: It was scoreless until the fifth when Rivera doubled, went to third on a bunt, and scored on a passed ball. In the seventh, Reymond Fuentes (San Diego) reached on a fielder's choice, went to third on a stolen base-plus-error, and scored on a passed ball. Carolina had men on second and third with one out in both the fourth and the sixth but could not score.
