Day thirteen of the playoffs.  Mayora administers a key triple for Caracas.  A seven-run inning carries Zulia.

CARACAS 5, MAGALLANES 3 IN CARACAS

Twins:  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) struck out two in 1.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and no walks.

Magallanes:  Juan Rivera was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Eliezer Alfonzo was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Ramon Hernandez (Kansas City) was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Caracas:  Daniel Mayora (Dodgers) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.  Bobby Abreu was 2-for-4 with a home run, his sixth.  Yoanner Negrin (Cubs) pitched five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk with one strikeout.

The game:  RBI singles by Rivera and Alfonzo gave Magallanes a 2-0 lead in the first inning.  Abreu homered in the second to cut the lead to 2-1.  Caracas took the lead in the fourth on a two-run triple by Mayora, who scored on a single by Yangervis Solarte.  Magallanes cut the lead to 4-3 in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Ramon Hernandez (Kansas City), but Caracas got the run back in the eighth on another RBi single by Solarte.  After the sixth, Magallanes never got a man past first base.

ZULIA 10, LA GUAIRA 4 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Zulia) was 0-for-4.

La Guaira:  Miguel Gonzalez (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Cesar Suarez was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.  Alex Cabrera was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.

Zulia:  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 2-for-5 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in four.  Jose Flores was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Ernesto Mejia (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once.

The game:  La Guaira opened the scoring in the fourth when Gonzalez hit a two-run homer.  Zulia came roaring back with seven in the bottom of the fourth.  An error, a single, and a walk loaded the bases.  A hit batsman brought in one, Flores singled in the second, another hit batsman brought in the third, Galvis singled in two, and Jose Pirela (Yankees) singled in two.  La Guaira got single runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the lead to 7-4, but that was as close as they came.  Zulia scored three in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
