So he'll get hurt a lot, the Twins will try to teach him to slap singles the other way, and then he'll get released?
As long as he first helps the Twins win a division title that sparks a decade-long dominance of the AL Central, I'm fine with that.
Back home from Las Vegas. The weather was absolutely great: a fine respite from the OMG winter we've been having. I was at a trade show (outside!), and it was glorious. In the casino, though, man, the smoke. Everyone was smoking. Just smoke everywhere. Thank God for no smoking laws in Minnesota. I got stuck in a "smoking optional" room. 6,500 hotel rooms at the MGM Grand and they didn't have a non-smoking room available. My backpack just reeks. Good Lord, it's terrible.
I'm pretty sure you can still smoke in Minnesota's Indian Casinos, unless that changed after I left.
I remember the change, though. Suddenly bars were (somewhat) fun again, and the biggest trigger I have for wanting to smoke - being at a bar - suddenly meant nothing.
Yes you can. Jackpot Junction has a non smoking area, but the last time I was there half the machines were out of order.
Luckily for me I don't frequent those establishments.
I've been to one - one time - when dragged along by my brother. It was a decent enough novelty, but the stenches of stale smoke and failure in the air were unbearable.
Jackpot?
I'm honestly not sure, but that doesn't sound right. Treasure Island? I guess he'd have to tell me.
Fulham losing to Cardiff ๐
At least Ireland beat the snot out of Italy this morning.
Yahoo finally added their "invite previous players" thing to the Pick 'Em league, so you should all have your invitations at the email address you used for the league last year. If you don't, give me your address and we'll get you in the league.
i didn't get one . you know my email address.
You're on the list as having gotten one. However, nobody has joined yet, so there's a good chance something's afoot.
My actor pick 'em league is starting to fill up, so whatever happened with the WGOM league isn't happening elsewhere.
..or it might just be that your preferred address has changed. Last year you played under the "carls" email, so that's where your initial invite went. I now sent one to the "free" email.
got it. thanks for checking.
Yahoo is demanding that I provide my cellphone number to "verify" my participation with a text message, expressly so they can send me marketing spam. call me a luddite, but, uh, no.
Gross.
I got the same thing, but did it because I was kind of drunk and not paying close enough attention.
Yard House is awesome. J was over the moon with the number of veggie options, and my steak sandwich was killer.
I had a Hawaiian Pizza there...in Hawaii!
Very pleasing beer list, as well. I couldn't decide so I had an IPA flight; turns out I've had five of the six before. Well, their selection process is strong, so no matter.
never been to one, although I've had yards o' beer.
also, since the topic has come up. I may have tasted a dozen or two very good beers this week. Sac Beer Week was pretty awesome.
the only bad part -- Rubicon had a half dozen beers on cask for its Very Special Firkin Thursday, but I could not go. ๐

Can you skip it? You used to be able to at least.
I could not.
I'm not playing this year.
Buxton home run!
Video evidence that he's a rally killer.

Some spring training notes from 1956, including one of the baby steps on the way to 24-hour sports talk.
Some really cool stuff there.
