    1. The Orb is playing First Ave today. I'd so want to see them if a) it wasn't 4-20, b) it wasn't Easter, c) I hadn't seen Colin Stetson last week, and d) wasn't seeing Lydia Loveless next week.

      My first summer home from college, back before the internet was what it is now, I learned of a concert by the Orb at First Ave the day before it happened because a friend came back from Mankato, stopping at Ernie November's, and brought home the City Pages. Paging through it, I saw the ad. Living at home and using the family's vehicle, my folks had final say. I couldn't go unless I went with someone. No one I knew of was interested and could go on such short notice, and I cold-called a bunch of college friends. Desparate to see one of my five favorite bands (Orbilivion had been released that spring), I asked if I could take my sister, just recently 18. Yes if she wanted to, and she only wanted to if I paid. I was willing to do that. That's how SNR's first concert was the Orb (with special guest Sun Electric).

      Years later, I saw them at Area One (Where they played about in hour in a 110F tent, and at least half of the time was spent on a drawn-out version of "Perpetual Dawn"). They were to be touring in the fall of 2007 I think but they had to cancel. That was right after Andy Hughes died and though he wasn't in the band at that point, I think that might have been the reason.

      The Orb is a lot like the Meat Puppets in my mind: I think their best album was the one that came after they broke through (for the Orb: in the US), but since then they've been making OK music with some really great moments in it and a bunch of filler, and i only listen because of their old music.

  4. Easter Sunday at the in-laws in nondescript Chicagoland suburbia: the smell of roasting lamb permeates the house, the windows are open to let in the 70°F spring air & bird songs of cardinals, blackbirds, and grackles; then, an hour before the meal starts, the idiot neighbor next door decides to start mowing his lawn.

    1. He probably has to work tomorrow and yesterday was too cold.
      Still an idiot, but I can guess at what he's thinking.

      1. The high here yesterday was 69° and it was partly sunny. I'm thinking just an idiot.

        1. It was cold and wet in MN yesterday morning. Figured it might have been the same there.
          Alternate: he had a lot of things he had to get ready for Easter yesterday, still has to work tomorrow, still an idiot.
          Alternate 2: forgot to get grass for easter baskets. Mowing for a more authentic replacement. Different kind of idiot.

        2. Wait, was he watering as soon at the snow melted, or what? My head is no where near being ready for a mow.

          1. Neighbor mowed yesterday, presumably to remind the grass he hasn't forgotten about it.

            As someone who does not observe Easter, and had grass long enough to even think about mowing and something to actually mow with, then mowing today would not have struck me as silly.

    3. Easter dinner at a persian restaurant in Tehrangeles with the Mrs, Girl, and my favorite UCLA prof and his lovely wife. Mmmm, lamb, and so much more. This place had a whole menu page labeled "vegan dishes" and they were fantastic.

    2. You can definitely hear an f-bomb being dropped at 0:17.

      Cutch looks sharp in that uni with the high socks.

    3. Eh, that didn't look like that bad of an admiring to me. Certainly not enough to warrant Cole being as upset as he was. And definitely not enough for the Pirates bench to be as close to the fracas as quickly as they were. Gomez is a hothead, but the Pirates must have been spoiling for that one.

      1. Yeah. Gomez would have had an in-the-park homer but for his trot. Pretty great that he could pull out a triple from that.
        I'll admit I'm biased to think little bad of the guy until I see something that actually shows malice and not just Gogogomezness.

        If Gomez is suspended, Cole should get suspended for starting it.

        1. Seriously? All he did was call Gomez out. All Gomez had to do was drop an F-bomb back and stand on the base. Cole did nothing to warrant a suspension.

          1. Looked to me like Cole did more jawing than was warranted, but not suspension worthy.

            Relevant to this conversation, Gomez had a 2-run HR in a 2-run Brewers win on Friday.

            1. Unless a player directs his jawing at the umps (or the fans), has ANYONE been suspended for that? I don't know what comments would be considered "warranted", but it looked to me like he made one comment that included an F-bomb, and unless he crossed some line about Gomez' family, whatever.

        2. I was watching the game when that happened, and its Maldonado (I think, anyway. That's what the Brewer's fans in the house were saying.) that may have a few games off to think about things after he punched the crap out of someone.

  7. If you'd have told me that the Twins would have 5 of the top 15 in OB% in the AL at this point in the season, I wouldn't have believed you. If you'd have said that Joe wouldn't be one of them, I'd have though you crazy.

    Who leads the Twins in OPS currently? No, not Colabello -- Josmil Freakin' Pinto. He may not catch as much as we'd like, but he'll be in the lineup.

    2. Pinto is looking scary good. He's consistently having these long extended at-bats and getting a ton of walks and then he jumps on the first pitch and hits it over 400 feet. Pitchers have to be wondering how to approach him. The Twins now have four regulars with a .900+ OPS and none of them are Mauer. Dozier is on pace to score 171 runs and Colabello is on pace to drive in 180 runs.

  8. Ive been watching some of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but outside of the Wild I havent found a team to rally around
    But even though its a 3-0 Habs lead, that series has been fun to watch.
