I'm posting this from work, so my usual deep, meaningful analysis will have to be eschewed.
Pelfrey vs. Odorizzi. If I were the pregame on-field reporter, I'd ask the opposing pitcher if his teammates make fun of him using "Over Easy" or if they just focus on the fact that "Odor" is in it. These are the things that keep me up at night.
Go team go!
This would be a great time for a Pelfrey strikeout.
Im not holding my breath
Could we see 21 strikeouts tonight?
Every time Mauer crushes a ball right at a fielder I want to scream for him.
Watching Pelfrey "pitch" is a painful experience.
Alex Meyer is pitching against Pawtucket tonight and has struck out 11 through 6.2 innings of 2 hit, no run ball. #FreeAlexMeyer
Good Cola
And the microphone was in his mom's face when he hit it. Awesome.
That was awesome.
That was great, and on her birthday, no less!
Yeah. That was cool.
Cola-biscuit!!1110010!!01!
Warm up the bullpen, Gardy. Don't let Big Pelf lose this for us!
Colabello with 24 RBIs in April. Two shy of Puckett's team record for most RBI in April.
That month in 1994 was pretty wowza
Heh, alright Escobar. I'd like a grand slam, too, but a nice line drive base hit would be good, too.
Yeah, get the 1 run in.
O hay look, a lead!
Why is GladStar talking about stuff on baseball caps - did I miss something?
Pineda (Yankees) got ejected for a foreign substance on his neck.
edit: oh yeah, it was against the Red Sox- I'm sure you'll hear more about it tomorrow
Post on HBT about it.
Foreign substance == tea tree/emory board special.
Not a real yanqui.
Welcome to the Fuld!
Nice.
So, a CF gets a hit and an RBI? I probably shouldn't get used to this.
I'm assuming that RBI, combined with Fuld's stature and high level of Scrappiness Above Replacement ensures we'll see plenty of Sam Fuld the next couple of weeks.
Its almost enough to wonder if we'll see Buxton before we see Hicks again. (probably not,)
new guy! wee
Clutch-time for the Trevah!
Nice inning for Pelf.
Gomes a bane for the Twin.
I'm looking at the header image for this post and laughing at the Rays' audacity to label a section the "Party Deck".
I think some insurance runs would be helpful.
wow, that was a nice play by the Rays SS guy.
Pelf's pitching 2 1/2 hours into the game? Only 5IP?
Can't we offer him to the Yanks or BoSox?
Just as you're not legally obligated to take pitchers out after they hit 100 pitches, you're not legally obligated to keep them in until they hit 100 pitches.
Called it!
And with men on base, its a good thing Deduno isn't available, Gardy.
Gardy LaRussa
Someone needs to take away his 13-man bullpen. Ugh.
You know, with the game on the line maybe he should've gone to a better reliever instead of playing musical chairs using almost his entire middle relief corps.
...and now we're switching to Swizzlestick, with no "technical" platoon advantage.
Make it stop.
Also, this game is almost 3 hours old - Pelfrey is not particularly quick, but he's not particularly good, either.
Sleestak better stay out there for the 7th since he threw one G.D. pitch.
Also, I think the rule should be that if you get Pelf through 5 innings, pull him immediately. Same with Correia after 6. Just don't risk it.
I like it, though maybe at least have the bullpen arm warmed and ready to insert upon the first baserunner after the innings you laid out.
I would sooner institute it for Hughes than Correia.
I was thinking that, too.l, actually.
I was thinking that I'd probably be okay with it for every pitcher on the staff. Once they get past the 5th or 6th it's definitely dicey territory for anyone on the team.
Agreed.
Nolasco and Gibson have both gone 8 innings with no problem.
Andrew Albers started his career with essentially two shutouts. Let's just leave him out there for seven plus too.
The answer is no.
Heh, five guys? Heck, I don't think there's one.
Good inning by Swingtack.
I could live with a Kubel home run.
Not sure what I'll do now.
When I came back to find the game tied, I figured it was because Pelf gave up the run. Yes.
Now we have a bunch of catchers clogging up the basepaths.
Heh, the Yankees-Red Sox game is only 3 batters ahead of this game.
Don't make the guy who's second in the AL in home runs bunt it.
Is there any evidence that no-doubles defense works?
I'm sure it does reduce the number of doubles. Whether that's useful, I don't know.
All Fuld does is win.
I had no idea that Kirby ever led off.
Mauer clearly not clutch enough to get the go ahead RBI.
I blame that on Boo Mauer.
Good to see Gardy is going to run through the entire bullpen the night before a day game.
Linds is extremely annoyed by the Rays fans.
Oh, for...
*puts money on "walkoff HBP"*
Fien did throw a pitch. It's probably time for Perkins to come in. You know, so that we can see if Suzuki can pitch.
Oh, thank goodness. I was listening to Dick, silly me.
PLEASE get the win against rapist Josh Lueke.
Read the comments in the Deadspin article on Josh Lueke... wow...
Anyone looking at Lueke's mugshot?
Rubber bands in his beard.
2014 Tampa Rays mugshot, nothing taken by the police or anything.
"Fuld me once, shame on you..."
Fuld me eleven times, and none more will do.
"We won't get Fuld again!"
Wow, the Rays are really screwing up those shifts on the right side.
Oh, sure, Escobar doubles on any of his OTHER at bats and we wouldn't still be playing now.
Anyone want to rename this place "Sons of Sam Fuld"?
Anyone?
I'm on board.
We have to replace 'Lew Ford's Rangers'?
I still had the rejected "Fans of Chuck James" sign that I made gathering dust in the corner. Just a few minor change and it was ready.
Plouffe should have done that two innings ago.
Are you a wizard?
I'm going to say yes. I'm also going to say I was referring to chopping the ball off the plate.
An infield single isn't gonna change your name Boo Mauer.
Excellent heads up play by Longoria there.
Looks like he should have fielded it...
Nice
PLOUFFE.
let's get one more present for your mama, Cola
Are you a wizard?
I'm also going to say yes.
ok... so on FSN, I can hear a different broadcast of the game in the background. Am I hearing voices?
Sounded kinda like Provus.
Cola ties the record!!
With a week left in the month.
CC and the RBIee Factory!
Everybody score now!
The music is my mind!
Gonna make you sweat til you win!
This guy is pretty good at hitting.
One run will score! Two runs will score!
Little would make me happier right now than making human garbage Lueke the losing pitcher in this game. Thanks, boys!
And at the hands of seemingly all around nice guy Colabello is a small slice of karma.
I'm watching the Rays feed (may or may not have found a less than reputable place to watch) and these guys are displeased with the crowd tonight.
I meant to come here and say "I hope they're interviewing Mrs. Colabello again" but I clicked the cup of coffee instead and got sidetracked playing magoo's game.
Better than 2048
I think I'm falling for Colabello, guys. I'm also pleased to see this go ridiculously long, as the family and I were watching a movie tonight and I didn't figure I'd catch any of this.
Great, fun story to be sure.
I'm holding the opposite thought on the length of this game here. I'm tired and want to go to bed, but I actually found a stream so I want to watch the whole thing.
It was nice to see the meat of the lineup string something together there.
Oh, these are actual extra innings? I thought that was just the Pelf factor.
When do his 15 minutes of fame expire?
(What a great story this cat is.)
When do his 15 minutes of fame expire?
Hopefully the minutes are measured in whatever sort of alternate time dimension that causes Pelf starts and Red Sox-Yankees games to take for fucking ever.
Nice work Bootsy...as always.
I haven't been able to watch a ton of games over the past few years, but is it just me or has Plouffe's defense looked somewhat competent this year?
Mauer did bail him out of an error tonight, but I think on the whole he has been not a liability, which is an improvement.
A win? Against Tampa Bay? Away?
With Pelf starting?
Extend his contract.
#pmki
Ooh, they just got it in before Midnight (Eastern). This is the first game the Twins have won on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, this year.
If this had gone a minute longer, I'd have said "They're winless M-W."
So... during post game, they go the Fox Sports North Girls at some viewing party. Like...OMG... gag me with a spoon, those girls were like, so much more annoying than, like, the spots on TV, like they handed out posters, and like, they had such a cool crowd and like, what is Fox Sports thinking?? No offense, and maybe they are nice people, but what a silly portion of the post game coverage.
It sounds like you can't even.
Can coozies!
The best FSN Girl, Jenny Taft, was picked up by FS1 and does reporting and such.
So I guess there is a little value to the whole deal.
Casey Fien (3-0), proven winner.
He did pitch a pretty good game.
Is this the place where I point out that the #6pen has been doing fairly well lately? Or is that reserved for Burton giving up grand slams?
Any encouragement of the #6pen may be misconstrued by Gardy as a compliment to his bullpen usage. Let's not go there.
Provus pointed out that the bullpen had an 18-inning scoreless streak going on last night, and that was an inning or two before the end of the game, so yeah, I think you're justified in saying they've done fairly well lately.
Plus, Burton didn't pitch last night, right?
that scoreless streak includes Thielbar's inherited runner scoring to tie the game, so...
I think Deduno allowed some inherited runners to score during the "scoreless streak" too, but everyone knows those don't count π
