Game 29: Baltimore at Minnesota

With the chance to get a series win, the Twins send Phil Hughes to the mound against Baltimore's Miguel Gonzalez. If Hughes is able to pick up where he left off in his last start, the home squad should be in good shape.

  1. JJ Hardy, Delmon Young, Steve Pearce. All the O's lineup needs is Alexi Casilla.

      1. Seeing _elm_n hit reminded me of how much I dislike watching him play the baseball.

    1. I guess, although it's a bit of an embarrassment that it's taken this long. I probably have a different perspective because I watch as many different broadcast teams as possible, and the Twins have to be one of the last ones.

      1. I have this image in my head of Dick storming the production booth saying "how dare you undermine a bunt situation by putting on base percentage for the hitter!"

        1. Also, I expect he had a rager talking about hunting against the shift.

      1. Oh, hmm, seemed pretty close to me, not that I'm complaining. My boy was getting crabby so I couldn't hear the explanation. You'd think baseball would make him sit and pay attention.

        1. They showed it a couple times on the Oriole feed. He was well over the line and Showalter didn't complain at all after the explanation. Schoop wasn't surprised either.

    1. Our two jesters haven't commented on that, to the best of my partial attention span.

    2. FSN showed Mauer talking to the trainer in between innings (before he left)

      1. Atteberry says muscle spasms in the lower back. Sounds like a made up injury to me.

  2. I'm guessing that creepy oily statue on the post above is some kinda Pohladeria.

  3. In a tribute to Twins broadcasters, I planted my Herb garden today (basil, oregano, sage, parsley, chives, Greek parsley, cilantro, tarragon, mint, rosemary, thyme, and nasturtium).

    1. Im not versed enough in defensive metrics (looking at FanGraphs makes my head swirl), but how is Dozier defensively? My eyetest tells me he is pretty good.

      1. That's pretty much my stance as well with the limited action I've seen.

      2. The metrics seem to agree with your eyesight- Dozier has been very good defensively since moving to second base. Last year he had the top range factor on BBref and was third in putout percentage. So far this year, he's leading in range factor again.

          1. Hey, I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's something, especially when taken in account with the high putout percentage (didn't misplay many balls, and he got to a lot of them).

  4. Dammit, I think someone got wise to the streaming. Everything suddenly went dark on me.

  5. Cruz, you didn't need to hit it that far. That's just rubbing it in.

  6. I don't know much about hockey, but it looked to me like Fontaine got called fir a penalty because a guy fell on his stick.

    1. Ditto for the Vikings if you replace "goalie" with "quarterback" and for the Twins if you replace "goalie" with "pitcher".

  7. Back from lunch at a neighborhood winery. Beautiful weather, and entertainment from jet formations to/from the air show in Chesterfield. The two watering holes in Defiance had motorcycles lined up on both sides of the highway. And now the Twins are winning, too. Good day all around

    1. He made a couple nice catches earlier, and he's the third catcher that Gardy desperately, desperately needs to have on the roster.

      So, not much.
