INDIANAPOLIS 10, ROCHESTER 0 IN INDIANAPOLIS
Batting stars: James Beresford was 2-for-4. Dan Rohlfing was 1-for-2 with a double.
Pitching stars: Stephen Pryor pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout. Lester Oliveros struck out two in a perfect inning. Aaron Thompson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.
Opposition stars: Gerrit Cole pitched six innings, allowing one hit and no walks with three strikeouts. Mel Rojas was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, scoring twice and driving in three. Tony Sanchez was 3-for-3 with two walks and three runs.
The game: Indianapolis took control early, scoring once in the first, four time in the second, and twice more in the third. Rochester did not get a hit until two were out in the fifth. Their only scoring threat came in the ninth after they were already behind 10-0. Beresford hit a two-out single followed by a Rohlfing double, but a ground out ended the game.
Of note: Doug Bernier was 0-for-4. Chris Herrmann was 0-for-2. Josmil Pinto was 0-for-4. Chris Colabello was 0-for-3. Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3. Starter Kris Johnson pitched three innings, giving up seven runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout.
NEW BRITAIN 4, ERIE 2 IN ERIE
Batting stars: Brandon Waring was 2-for-4 with a home run (his thirteenth) and two runs. Brad Boyer was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs. Kyle Knudson was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Pitching stars: Jose Berrios pitched four innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Adrian Salcedo pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with one strikeout.
Opposition star: Jason Krizan was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The game: With two out in the second, New Britain put together three consecutive singles, the last one followed by an error, to take a 2-0 lead. Krizan singled in a run in the third to cut the lead to 2-1. Waring hit a one-out homer in the fourth to make it 3-1 and Boyer tripled and scored in the seventh to give the Rock Cats a 4-1 advantage. Erie scored once in the ninth, had the tying run on with one out, and had the winning run on with two out, but a fly to left ended the game.
Of note: Eddie Rosario was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk. Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4. Nate Hanson was 1-for-4 with a double. Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-3 with a walk.
FORT MYERS 9, PALM BEACH 1 IN PALM BEACH
Batting stars: Dalton Hicks was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in three. Max Kepler was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.
Pitching stars: Aaron Slegers pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Madison Boer pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one walk with one strikeout. Alex Muren pitched a scoreless inning.
Opposition star: Bruce Caldwell was 2-for-4 with a triple.
The game: Fort Myers got a two-run double from Hicks in the third to open the scoring and then took command of the game with a four-run fourth. The first five batters of the inning reached base: a single, a double, then three more singles. Palm Beach did not get back into the game.
Of note: Byron Buxton was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run. Travis Harrison was 0-for-2 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one. Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
KANE COUNTY 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (15 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Ryan Walker was 2-for-7 with a walk and two runs. Alex Swim was 2-for-6 with a double and a walk, driving in one. Mitch Garver was 1-for-4 with a double and three walks.
Pitching stars: Jake Reed pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout. Jared Wilson pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars: Shawon Dunston was 3-for-7 with a home run (his second) and two runs. Cael Brockmeyer was 3-for-7 with a double, scoring once and driving in two. Jacob Rogers was 2-for-7 with a double and a triple, scoring once and driving in two.
The game: Kane County got a run on a double play in the first and Dunston homered in the third to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. Cedar Rapids tied it in the bottom of the third on a two-run single by Bryan Haar. Jeimer Candelario doubled in a run in the fourth to put Kane County back in front 3-2. In the seventh, two walks and an error tied the score and a Swim RBI single gave the Kernels a 4-3 lead. The Cougars scored on an error in the eighth to tie it up. There was no more scoring until the fifteenth, when Rogers hit a two-run triple and scored on a Brockmeyer double. Cedar Rapids did not get the tying run up to bat in the bottom of the fifteenth.
Of note: Haar was 1-for-6 with a walk and two RBIs. Max Murphy was 0-for-6 with a walk. Starter Ricky Nolasco struck out six in 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and no walks.
