I haven't worked a Friday in a month or two, but I'm working Halloween night. Gotta figure out how to snake out of this one.

Get a snake costume?
Starting the day at work listening to Guy Clark's Old No. 1 has been exactly the right call. A perfect spin for a quiet autumn morning.
No whooping coughs visiting this morning?
So far I've just had meetings, so no. But I have drop-in duty today, so you never know.
Whoa,
Foo Fighters, Cheap Trick, Naked Raygun, Urge Overkill at Wrigley Field August 29th, 2015. There's a presale tomorrow! I'm really tempted to get a ticket and then use the next 10 months to figure out the details.
Ooh, this might be happening. My friend in Chicago who I went to Riotfest with is definitely interested and will be hitting the presale tomorrow! If anyone else is interested (Hungry Joe?) the presale is on tomorrow at 10:00a. You can find link from FF website or Cubs website. The Code is HIGHWAYS.
I know some of ya'll are still talking about keyboard shortcuts on yesterday's post, but I just wanted to share Clavier+. → Where the program lives
I heart Keyboard shortcuts, and wanted them to be a bit more universal. Clavier+ is the tool I've found most useful for setting up your own. For example on my machines the unicode character "→" is "Alt+>"
So much win.
Beware using other people's computers!
I've got a lot of personalization in Excel, Extra pastes: CTRL+B for Values, CTRL+N for Formulas, CTRL+M for Formats, CTRL+K for Values Transposed.*
I'm always accidentally bolding and opening new worksheets when I help others on their computers.
*I've yet to find one instance where I wanted to paste formulas or formats transposed.
this is why I don't use personalization add-ons. I want to be able to jump between computers and not flounder, so I use standard shortcuts only
Takes too damned long though.
What Windows needs is a settings persistence file you can carry around on a USB drive. Just plug it in and your personal settings override the system settings. Voila, you can have your customized settings on any Windows computer. Encrypted and password protected, of course. But that would be be a fairly simple thing that would add a lot of value for users, so I don't expect it to ever happen.
And hard to do right. Putting "portable" applications on the USB drive and running from there would be close to what you want.
Hmmm. Thinking about the structure of the Windows registry I can see the issues with that approach -- conflicts with disparate hardware/drivers/software versions, etc. Not impossible but probably not worth the development work for MS, either. The portable app approach would work well for Office and other productivity apps, though. But for a variety of reasons (cost, cost and cost) I've been moving away from Windows for personal use and starting to get into Linux. I'm thinking of getting a new SSD drive and turning my daughter's old Dell E6410 into a dual boot Windows/Linux machine (I got the Dell, an upgrade over my D630, when she got a Macbook for college). I'm really impressed with Mint as a replacement for Windows, but I've only been running it as a live session so far so haven't been able to really dig into its full capabilities or test much software yet. I really want to see how well Wine handles Windows apps on Linux. Also, I keep a copy of Puppy Linux with a bunch of diagnostic and administrative apps on a small flash drive so I can troubleshoot machines when they won't boot from the C: drive. Puppy has a ridiculously small footprint, under 300MB I believe.
My favorite web series is everything Jon Bois does.
I recently finished my reading of the printout of the Tebow CFL chronicles. Now I have to go back to watch the Gifs.
My favorite current Bois series, though the full CFL Chronicles were fantastic. Best all-time? The Dugout, of course.
Off with Mrs. Runner for three nights of B&B in the southern MO Mississippi region. Wineries and eateries to be explored.
According to the study, fast-food restaurant clientele tend to hold onto their receipts, rather than stuffing them into pockets or wallets. In a test at a local food court, customers who held onto receipts for 45 seconds immediately after using Purell had a maximum 581 micrograms of BPA on their palms and fingers—a "significant" amount, according to the researchers. After holding the receipt for two seconds, 40 percent of that maximum was found, and within 15 seconds, 58 percent was recovered. (After 45 seconds, BPA accumulation levels dropped.)
BPA accumulated much faster on the hands of restaurant-goers who used hand sanitizer before accepting their receipt compared to those with dry hands. Even without Purell, though, subjects accumulated BPA.
You tend to hold onto a receipt if it has your order number on it. Also, you want it handy in case, A, the person serving the food wants to make sure this order is yours, or B, you want to make sure you have all your food when it comes.

YMMV. Obviously.
This weeks Breaking Madden, Jon Bois tries to throw 511 touchdowns in a single game.
