Venezuelan View: Games of October 25

A Margarita comeback falls short.  Anzoategui comes back twice.  Home runs lift La Guaira.

MAGALLANES 5, MARGARITA 4 IN MAGALLANES

Twins:  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run for Margarita.

Margarita:  Eliezer Alfonzo was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  David Peralta (Arizona) was 1-for-1 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Marcel Prado (Baltimore) pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Magallanes:  Luis Nunez (Tampa Bay was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Anthony Lerew (Angels) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Nunez had a two-run triple in a four-run second that put Magallanes ahead 5-2.  It stayed there until the ninth, when Margarita scored twice and had the tying run on second with two out.

ANZOATEGUI 7, LARA 6 IN ANZOATEGUI (10 INNINGS)

Twins:  Dubal Baez was used as a pinch-runner by Lara but did not bat or play in the field.

Lara:  Joe Thurston was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Jairo Perez (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a double.  Raul Rivero pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Anzoategui:  Brandon Allen (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and a walk.  Orlando Arcia (Milwaukee) was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and a walk.  Richard Salazar (Baltimore) struck out three in 3.1 innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit.

The game:  Arcia hit a two-run homer and Allen a solo shot in a four-run eighth that brought Anzoategui from a 5-1 deficit to a 5-5 tie.  Anderson De La Rosa (Angels) doubled in a run for Lara in the tenth, but a two-run double by Gorkys Hernandez in the bottom of the tenth gave Anzoategui a 7-6 victory.

ZULIA 5, CARACAS 1 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Ryan O'Rourke struck out the only man he faced for Zulia.

Caracas:  Henry Alejandro Rodriguez (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Luis Antonio Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Yoimer Camacho (Arizona) struck out two in 2.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits.

Zulia:  Ali Castillo (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Sergio Perez pitched six shutout innings, allowing five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Zulia scored two in the third to go ahead 3-0 and their lead was never threatened.

LA GUAIRA 8, ARAGUA 4 IN LA GUAIRA

Aragua:  Willson Contreras (Cubs) was 1-for-2 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice.  Teodoro Martinez (Texas) was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

La Guaira:  C. J. Retherford (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, driving in three.  Rene Reyes was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his third), scoring twice.  Enrique Gonzalez pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  Reyes hit a two-run homer in a four-run seventh that broke a 4-4 tie and put the game out of reach.  The last seven Aragua batters were retired.
