A Hermosillo rally falls short. So does a Navojoa rally. A big tenth wins it for Mexicali.
CULIACAN 4, HERMOSILLO 3 IN CULIACAN
Twins: Eric Farris was 0-for-3 and scored once for Culiacan.
Hermosillo: Yunesky Sanchez was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Adan Munoz was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Leo Rosales retired all four batters he faced, striking out two.
Culiacan: Nick Buss (Oakland) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Jorge Vazquez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Salvador Valdez pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
The game: Vazquez singled in two in a three-run third. Sergio Gastelum homered to make it 4-0 after six. Hermosillo rallied in the ninth, scoring three times and putting the tying run on base with two out.
OBREGON 6, NAVOJOA 4 IN OBREGON
Twins: Corey Wimberly was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Obregon.
Navojoa: Rolando Acosta was 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk. Reggie Abercrombie was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the fourth. Ruddy Acosta pitched two perfect innings.
Obregon: Nicolas Garcia was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs. Jake Smolinski (Texas) was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once. Jose Pina pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.
The game: Obregon scored three in the third and led 5-0 after four. Navojoa cut the lead to 5-3 and 6-4, but could not come closer.
LOS MOCHIS 5, JALISCO 4 IN LOS MOCHIS
Jalisco: Cory Vaughn (Mets) was 1-for-5 with a three-run homer, his third. Jose Heberto Felix was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Los Mochis: Antonio Lamas was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and four RBIs. Rodolfo Amador was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs. Julian Arballo (Yankees) pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.
The game: Jalisco overcame a 3-0 deficit to lead 4-3 after six. Lamas singled in a run in the seventh to tie it up and Ernesto Molinet doubled in the go-ahead run in the eighth.
MAZATLAN 6, MEXICALI 4 IN MEXICALI (10 INNINGS)
Mazatlan: Hector Paez was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Derrick Robinson (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Miguel Aguilar struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.
Mexicali: Luis Juarez was 5-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Dave Sappelt was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice. Omar Espinoza pitched five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
The game: Mazatlan tied it 3-3 after six and it stayed tied until the tenth, when a two-run single by Jose Manuel Orozco gave Mazatlan the lead. Robinson singled in another run to make it 6-3. Mexicali got one back in the bottom of the tenth and got the tying run up to bat with one out, but that was as much as they could do.
