Brisbane wins a see-saw game. Sydney hangs on to win.
BRISBANE 5, MELBOURNE 4 IN MELBOURNE (11 INNINGS)
Twins: Logan Wade was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run for Brisbane.
Brisbane: Granden Goetzman (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-5 with a home run (his third) and a walk, scoring twice. Ryan Battaglia (Cleveland) was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once. Chen-Hua Lin struck out six in six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks.
Melbourne: Dylan Cozens (Philadelphia) was 2-for-6 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one. Scott Wearne was 2-for-5 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Makoto Aiuchi pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
The game: Melbourne went up 3-0 in the first but trailed 4-3 after eight. Wearne singled in the tying run with one out in the ninth, but three walks and a Joshua Roberts (Cleveland) single brought home the go-ahead run for Brisbane in the tenth.
SYDNEY 7, CANBERRA 5 IN CANBERRA
Twins: Markus Solbach retired all four batters he faced, striking out one, for Sydney.
Sydney: Will Swanner (Colorado) was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and a triple, scoring twice. Alex Glenn (Arizona) was 2-for-5 with a double and a walk, driving in one. Timothy Cox (Boston) pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Canberra: L. B. Dantzler (Toronto) was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, scoring twice and driving in three. Christian Lopes (Toronto) was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Jake Brown struck out two in a scoreless inning, allowing one hit.
The game: Each team scored three in the first, but Sydney got one in the fourth and three in the seventh to go up 7-3. Canberra scored two in the eighth and had the tying run on base with one out, but their last five batters were retired.
