Down Under Diary: Games of November 14

Three one-run games.  Two walkoffs.

ADELAIDE 5, PERTH 4 IN ADELAIDE

Perth:  Nick Rulli was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs. Tim Smith (Atlanta) was 1-for-3 with a triple and two walks, scoring once.  Cameron Lamb (Houston) struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Adelaide:  Aaron Miller (Dodgers) was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice.  Chan Moon (Houston) was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Josh Tols struck out five in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk.

The game:  Brandon Dixon (Dodgers) doubled in Moon to give Adelaide a 4-3 lead in the seventh.  In the ninth, a walk and a single-plus-error tied the score and put the winning run on third; a wild pitch then scored the winning run.

BRISBANE 6, MELBOURNE 5 IN BRISBANE

Twins:  Logan Wade was 0-for-2 for Brisbane.

Melbourne:  Mitch Ayers was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a double, driving in two.  Kellin Deglan (Texas) was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer, his third.  Tim Brown (Philadelphia) struck out three in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

Brisbane:  Thomas Coyle (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Kuan-Wei Yang was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Daniel Cooper (Seattle) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  Brisbane led 6-1 after five.  Melbourne scored two in the sixth and two in the ninth and had the potential tying run thrown out at the plate trying to score on an infield grounder.

SYDNEY 7, CANBERRA 6 IN SYDNEY

Twins:  Markus Solbach pitched 7.2 innings for Sydney, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Canberra:  Anthony Alford (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Jack Murphy (Toronto) was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer.  Wayne Ough pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout.

Sydney:  Alex Glenn (Arizona) was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk, scoring twice and driving in three.  Michael Lysaught was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Canberra trailed 6-2 after seven, but an RBI double by Alex Hudak (Kansas City) and Murphy's three-run homer tied it 6-6.  With the bases loaded and one out in the ninth, Glenn hit a sacrifice fly to win the game.
