@theFeeder2day: blue jay, cardinal, nuthatch, chickadee, goldfinch, black junco, pine warbler, downey woodpecker, hairy woodpecker, and red-bellied woodpecker. The blue jays have learned how to sweep the seeds off the ledge onto the ground, where its easier for them to eat.
Pine Warblers in December? Even in New Britain, I find that unlikely.
Do you mean Pine Siskins?
Whichever the species, all but the rest are my regulars here in Brooklyn Park.
At Scandia, MN. I think you're right, Pine Siskins.
Since I'm correcting nomenclature,
they're Dark-Eyed Juncos, or Slate-Colored Juncos (to the subspecies-type).
But since there's no such thing as a Black Junco, it was clear which bird you were referring to.
I did forget to mention that we get a troop of Turkeys through every day (or so) and lots of crows overhead that rarely stop.
The crows are reverse-commuters. They all sleep near downtown Minneapolis, but they spread out to the suburbs every morning.
Dark-Eyed Juncos are one of my favorites due to them wintering here.
My trail-cam that I had pointed towards a feeder picked up an apparent male that has intermediate plumage between Oregon and Slate-Colored. A clearly defined "hood" but not so dark, and grey-tan sides. The back doesn't have the hood so clearly defined. So I've been obsessively watching the ones in my yard for variations. I think I've got about three come through that look like this. Most have no indication of any Oregon ancestry. There's a common name for this type, "Cassiar Junco", I discovered. There's a disputed subspecies for them, Junco hyemalis cismontanus because hybrid populations aren't considered subspecies, so the subspecies may be invalid.
I often see a huge 'convention' of crows in the trees along the freeway. Doesn't seem realistic that they could food-source in those kinds of numbers. They must just hang out for the social aspect of it, then disperse out to do their feeding.
typically, such a group is called a 'murder'
Just finished Edge of Tomorrow w/Runner daughter, and then I went back in time and read the discussion. I would have preferred a less Hollywood ending, but overall it wasn't too bad of a flic.
Saw Interstellar yesterday with a chunk of the family (others saw Into the Woods).
Very entertaining. I suspended disbelief.
You all know if the Wolves actually drafted Steph Curry, he would either be injured all the time or flamed out of the league Johnny Flynn style.
True enough. I'm watching right now and am seriously considering finding a new team. I know it's the second night of a back to back, but this is barely basketball.
I just am holding out that things will be better when Rubio returns to the court.
The Wolves team motto: Just hold out until _________ returns. Of course, we all know someone else crucial will be injured by then.
at my job, I'm a float. When someone in the organizations goes on leave, or quits unexpectedly, I can come in and cover while they're gone. I may be asked to go different office sites around the state to do so. Typically, I have more experience and training than the person who left or is on leave. The NBA should do the same. Promote, say, Lebron James to a Senior Associate Guard or something. Whichever team needs him most gets him until their players are healthy. Then he goes to a different team to help out.
Brilliant. It would mean he played for the Wolves about 75 games per season.
Hold on, is the NBA paying him or the team he consults?
Also, if Flip was just the GM and not GM/Coach, would he fire the coach after 3 weeks of mostly uninspired play?
So I found this game on dice tower news today. Here's the description:
While interacting with each other, the players seek to interrogate, steal or injure when they can. With a double-blind interaction mechanism that never really lets the tension ebb, a skilled agent will need to do a lot more than see through a bluff if they want to win.
Dude, that's yesterday's story
And here's your cilantro story for the day
