Maybe this is why he didn't pitch well: Tommy Milone was pitching last year with a tumor in his neck.
another made-up malady.
When I was in LIttle-League, we'd just cut off our tumors with a paring knife and get back out there
We couldn't afford a paring knife, we had to bite tumors off with our teeth. And we liked it.
Gives me a lump in my throat.
He's not tall enough to get a neck tat.
Had a good time at TwinsFest yesterday, and Daughter the Younger ran into Torii Hunter, literally. Well, actually it was the other way around. We had been checking out the press box and were heading back to the concourse when I decided to use the press box bathroom (how many chances to do that will I get, right?). So my daughter was waiting for me right outside when Torii Hunter and a couple of security guys came around the corner from inside the press box (he was cutting through to avoid the crowded concourse, I think) on their way to the Go96.3 lounge just outside. Torii had to veer aside to avoid her and grabbed her shoulder as he passed to make sure he didn't knock her over. He did have the manners to excuse himself as he passed by. So that was a cool encounter for the daughter. Later on at the Pro Shop garage sale I picked up a blue hat with red bill and trim, embroidered with "Hi Everybody!" on the front and "Carneal" on the back headband for just two bucks. We also bought a grab bag and got a nice knit Twins took, a Glen Perkins bobblehead and a souvenir bat from the All-Star Game (there were lots of ASG leftovers around). All in all a good day, capped off later in the evening when we collected the wife and Elder Daughter and went to Brit's Pub for Younger Daughter's birthday dinner (she turned 19 last week, how is that even possible?). An unabashed Anglophile, she's declared it her new favorite restaurant.
Getting ready for the Nor'easter smack down coming here for tomorrow afternoon.
They are saying 12-24" of snow, 50mph winds, and a good chance for large-scale power outages.
We piled a bunch of firewood into the sun-room, loaded up on prepared food, and I have been preparing Storm-Station 2000, which includes a nifty RedCross crank power radio/flashlight and cellphone charger, candles, water, etc. This year's prepper ensemble includes this, but it might be hard to find small sticks under several feet of snow.
Listening to WB1 on my red-cross radio. Computer-generated voice is like Max Headroom having white russians with Nostradamus.
Storm warning. Travel will be impossible. Seas building to 13 to 21 feet. Winds building from 20-25 knots, increasing to 40-55 knots. Coastal flood watch. 4 feet of surge above astronomical tide. This is a life threatening situation. Drifts up to 6 feet. Gusts up to 55 mph. Natch.
I wore a teeshirt and jeans to run errands today. 😉
Hang in there, Bo. Batten down the hatches.
Shorts and a t-shirt for me.
What was I saying about moving to the Twin Cities, again?
Pretty sure NBB ain't experiencing a Nor'easter in the Twin Cities...
Pretty sure y'all aren't experiencing shorts and t shirt weather in the Twin Cities either.
Not quite, but it is supposed to reach the fifties in north-central South Dakota today.
Mags, this is Minnesota. It hit 43 degrees on Saturday so there were kids in the neighborhood rollerblading in shorts and t-shirts.
When it hit mid 50's in the spring, the coeds at college would be out laying on towels working on their tans
"Co-eds"....
Makes me think "mid 50's" means something other than temperature.
It was quite comfortable Saturday in the sun. The wind on Sunday made it less appealing.
Yup.
I'm getting soft down here. 50 is jacket weather
I wore my barn jacket today. It was 46 F when I left the house, with a high of low 60s forecast.
Met up with Pepper and DK today. It was a lot of fun - made me wish I lived closer so that these things could happen more often.
Thanks for the entertaining conversation, folks, and thanks again for the stuff for baby B to sit in, Pepper!
Very fun, indeed.
