Was looking at the Twins stats from last year. Every single starter with the exception of Kris Johnson had a lower FIP than their ERA; many times it was a run lower. I haven't done the math, but I would guess if they matched the Twins are looking at a winning record. Pitch to contact + terrible defense. Good plan front office.
If your ERAs are turrible, then FIPs that are slightly better are still turrible.
But, yea, the defense was pretty bad last year, and the OF defense ain't getting any better soon.
putting out the Ubelsignal: I'd love to see your thoughts on xRA vs FIP/xFIP.
Does batted ball type figure into the calculation of xRA? I am leery of stats that rely on batted ball data due to the imprecision of its classification.
I have not thought real hard about his critique of FIP yet, but some of this sounds pretty plausible at first blush.
It should improve when old man Hunter busts a hip, though. (note: I'm not wishing injury on him.)
I am getting myself through the Hunter Reprise by reminding myself that I've been a Twins fan long before he got here and will be long after he's gone (which I hope is fairly soon)
Am I a bad person if I kind of am? Nothing that's going to debilitate him for life. Just enough to keep him from playing baseball this year for the Twins.
how about something semi-innocuous that would allow the Twins to void his contract?
Like violating a morality clause by being caught in bed with the local media?
We talking Marnie or Lavelle?
All of the media, at once.
Isn't he already guilty of that?
That was the joak.
Sadly, not really a joke.
That would work too.
Woke up at midnight this morning to watch World Cup IND vs PAK here (if you go to full screen the pop-up ads go away).
India's batsmen thrashed the Pakistani bowlers (especially Kohli with a nice century).
Apparently Cory Provos does NCAABB play by play.
He has been doing games on the Big Ten Net most of the year. He is pretty good!
R. I. P. Wendell Kim, long-time third-base coach, at age 64 due to complications from Alzheimer's.
As I recall, Adam was a fan off “Wavin' Wendell" from his stint as the Cubs' 3B coach.
That's a horribly young age to die of Alzheimer's.
Mrs. Runner is watching SNL40 in the other room. I couldn't tell if Paul McCartney singing Maybe I'm Amazed was a parody at first or not. Mrs. Runner: "Why is he still singing?"

also, fwiw, the starters' xRAs were turrible (Phil Hughes excepted).

hahaha.
Overall, I thought the show was pretty good
