The Irish Red I brewed, that is. It has this nice barrel-aged taste, which makes no sense at all. ...cheaptoy? Anyone?

I'll agree. "Good" and "beer" together makes no sense at all.
You're so terrible at everything.
I don't have any suggestions on that. The only time I've ever gotten that flavor was when I put wood chips in it.
I remember making comments about a flavor I enjoyed in a particular import when at a bar conversing with a brewer. He opined that the flavor I was describing was likely evidence of a handling problem.... π
At least the tickets are claimed online. Getting to the game is another matter.
Question re: keepers... I can keep Strasburg again because of when he hit the threshold, right?
Also, why are there two "round" categories that are sometimes different?
Congratulations Wild, the WGOM recognizes your existence!
Like! This run has been amazing. Plenty of room on the band wagon.
Just think if they had a suitable replacement goalie when Kuemper bit the dust, hoe much farther up in the standings the team be.
I dont know if its confirmed or not, but I think that bout of the mumps the team had to deal with had a bigger effect/lasted longer on the team than what was being reported.
I haven't been able to watch more than a period or two for a while (because nothing but Netflix currently), but ever since they acquired Dubnyk, I've been following and enjoying.
Just before her maternity leave began, my wife decided to up our cable package in order to have a few premium channels. As a result, we got FSN. As a result, I have been able to watch more Wild games start to finish this season than in probably the last three seasons combined. It has been a blast!
R. I. P. Minnie Minoso, the first black baseball player in Chicago and a man who played in five decades (kind of), at age 89.
Link. This story says he was 90. B-r.com says he was 89. I don't suppose it really matters.
Has not been a good month for Chicago baseball legends.
so, went to Costco to buy two tires for the Girl's vehicle today. They told me that "company policy" requires them to sell in sets of 4 (for a 4-wheel drive vehicle) to "insure against transmission problems" or some such. Uh, the OWNER's MANUAL doesn't require that.
so they sold me zero tires. First time that Costco has ever pissed me off.
That's BS. Maybe 2 but not 4. I've bought 1 when my tire went flat and couldn't be repaired. I would rather they admit they're a bulk seller and will only sell 4 at a time to keep up with their overhead costs.
I have bought pairs from them for two other vehicles. This was new bs.
Heh. My customers have been pissed off by Costco plenty of times. Welcome to the club.
$478 (for Bridgestones) plus $15/tire installation package was the best online price. I didn't stay long enough at my Costco to get a price quote.
Thanks. Of course we have the "Sport" package which among other things, includes 18" wheels. It may not necessarily translate to higher prices, but I have the feeling that it will.
Do you prefer Bridgestones, or was that just a very good deal? I don't buy tires enough to have developed any sort of brand affinity.
the Bridgestones were just the cheapest available that fit the vehicle. I'm not wedded to a brand. As long as the speed and wear ratings are sufficiently good, I'm pretty much a price shopper.
One of the few commercial products my company offers in the US is tires. We needed a new set recently (all 4), and I told the guy that maybe I should get those out of loyalty. He told me, yeah, I can sell you those. Or I could sell you some good tires. Apparently my loyalty only goes so far.
Hah.
So, are you going to tell us what the "good" tires are?
π
I dont watch a lot of non-Wolves NBA games, but this Houston-Cleveland game is something.
That was intense.
Making cabbage and sausage tonight, one of my family's favorites. Usually I use brats or something similar, fry 'em up, then cook cabbage and onion in the oil left from the pork product (plus a little butter, salt, pepper, and a bit of cider vinegar). Using venison sausage (wild rice venison sausage! (yum!)) tonight, so needed a little extra cooking liquid, because less fat. Happen to have some hard cider on hand. Yup, that will work.
cc to bS from our conversation last week - for what it's worth I'm in the Current Population Survey.
INteresting. Represent, Scot!
I could pull a Le Batard and let the WGOM collectively respond to the survey for me.
Hey sean -- can we get Twins spring training games on the side panel? I'm pining for radio/TV coverage to begin.
It looks like Wednesday's and Thursday's night games are both on FSN and Thursday also looks like it will be on MLB Network as well.
I just stumbled onto this 1987 NY Times article about the different stretch-drive trades teams were trying to make. It included this paragraph:
The Minnesota Twins obtained Steve Carlton July 31 and tried diligently to acquire David Palmer from Atlanta on the last day of August. The Twins, however, wouldn't give the Braves one of their top three minor league pitchers, not even in a deal for Palmer, Ken Griffey and Gene Garber. On that last day, on the other hand, the Twins did get Don Baylor, a valued team member on and off the field.
I wonder who the top three pitchers were? I'm guessing some combination of Allan Anderson, Mark Portugal, Roy Smith, Mike Dyer, Paul Abbott, and Steve Gasser.*
*Who, you may ask (can I sure did)? Gasser was the Twins 1985 2nd round pick. He had some incredible minor league strikeout numbers: 225 K's in 188.2 IP as a 18 yo in A-ball, followed up by 144 K's in 147.s IP as a 19 yo split between AA and AAA. He also had no control. It looks like he must have blow his arm out or something, because he walked all 6 men he faced in 1988, then didn't pitch at all in 1989, and then returned for one miserable partial season in 1990 (55 walks in 24 IP back in A-ball). Now I'm pretty curious by his story.
Heh, later in the same article I get to this nugget:
''I tried to tell the whole baseball world how good Doyle [Alexander] is, but not many listened,'' [Braves GM Bobby] Cox said. The Tigers were one club that did. ''He's been very rough against our club and he's pitched extremely well at Tiger Stadium,'' explained Bill Lajoie, the Detroit general manager. ''Atlanta was talking to us about other pitchers'' - [David] Palmer and Rick Mahler - ''but they wanted too much for them. Finally, I said 'What about Alexander?' and he got back to me and said O.K.''
The Tigers gave the Braves a minor league pitcher, John Smoltz, who throws a fastball at 92 to 94 miles an hour.
I love that the Tigers wanted either David Palmer or Rick Mahler more than Doyle Alexander (who was ridiculous for Detroit down the stretch). I love even more that they couldn't get either guy because the asking price was too high, so the Braves settled for a lesser prospect in John Smoltz to trade Alexander.
I love that the only thing they mention about Smoltz is that he has a pitch most pitchers have
One last note, the article was written by Murray Chass, but he didn't mention the backne of any of the players he discussed.

The forecast is calling for a blizzard in my parts, otherwise I would hit up this deal
Kevin Garnett is giving away tickets for Monday's game

Maybe this story is well-known, but I didn't know it: Did Dwight Eisenhower play pro baseball under a false name?
Huh. Apparently I like Ike.

How much did Costco want for four tires?
