      Monday: Can of Corn

      Saturday: nibbish

Anyone want Wednesday? The middle of the week for recaps is wide open too.

      1. I can do Wednesdays again, though I'm not going to promise much until Santana gets back. πŸ˜‰

        EDIT: I meant Game Logs

      2. Just to be sure, I'm recapping the games from Sunday, to be posted on Monday. I don't have to recap that crap game from today, do I?

          1. Right. If you have a recap day of Monday, any (Twins) game(s) from Monday are to be recapped by the next day. Preferably before first pitch if there's a game the next day.

  1. Wild Playoff Watch: Let's Finish This Edition

Due to this weekend's results, the Wild are mathematically eliminated from winning the division. So there's that.

Minnesota cannot catch St. Louis and can only tie Nashville. They would hold the tiebreak in that eventuality, but only by winning out, while Nashville goes pointless.

Chicago has a magic number of 3 to be assured of finishing higher than Minnesota. More on that tomorrow (if it's still relevant).

    GAMES TONIGHT:

Winnipeg @ Minnesota - Wild clinch a playoff spot with a regulation win.
LA @ Vancouver - The Canucks have lost a couple games in a row to fall back into the mess around 8th place. The Wild's magic number for LA is 5, and for Vancouver is 6.

    1. Sure wouldn't mind seeing 60 minutes of quality play from the boys this evening. I feel like they've played maybe 2.5 good periods out of the past 7 (between regulation & OT).

I'm also excited to see if we get both Cooke and, more importantly, Zucker back on the ice this week.

    1. But when you think of good Twins teams, you think of moments informed by personality.

It's nice that Top Jimmy can continue to find ways to take swipes at Joe Mauer.

      1. It wasn't Mauer & Morneau going crazy while Santana & Liriano pitched like the two best pitchers in the world that sparked that 2006 run. It was Redmond taking bp with his junk hanging out.

        God dammit.

        1. I do remember good timin' Torii Hunter misplaying a single into an inside-the-park home run that ended the 2006 fun.

      2. But when you think of good Twins teams, you think of moments informed by personality. Kelly going against his book and leaving Jack Morris in to pitch the 10th.

Or Gardy going against the book and leaving Nathan out for a third inning of relief.

What a complete throwaway of an article.

  2. For the first time in at least five years I don't have a MLB.tv subscription, so I won't be watching the game today. I decided not to renew, partially because of my boycot of the current Twins front office, and partially because I don't know how much I can commit to watching half of the Padres' games given the time difference.

Speaking of, the Padres made an interesting move over the weekend that I can't quite figure for the same reason Pouliot elaborates. The Friars certainly had reached the end of their rope with Maybin, but trading their best prospect for a closer is not really what the team needs (especially when they traded so much of the farm already this winter).

    1. The Twins/Tigers game is the mlb.tv free game of the day, so you can watch if you want to.

    1. Maybe Hostess has Dock-tored their ingredients?

  3. the world works in mysterious ways. Got a call yesterday afternoon from a new neighbor, "John," interested in looking at our van for his niece. Says she will be over around 7:30.

around 7:30, get a call -- "we are outside, ready to look at the van." Are you the people referred by newish neighbor on the court? Spanish as first language, so communication is a bit rough, but yes, they were referred by friend on the court. "John"? No, another name. I shrug. I mean, what are the odds?

We agree on a price. I go back in the house.

around 8:00, get a call -- it's John, "on our way over, sorry we're late." Awww, you have GOT to be kidding me. They want to make an offer (full price) on the spot.

being the ethical person that I am, I told them up front what had happened and that I'd already accepted an offer (a couple hundred below asking price). Said I would call if the previous deal falls through.

    1. also, they still were willing to offer full price after I pointed out the bald front tires, the two broken door handles (this model Sienna is notorious for crappy plastic door handles) and the frayed-and-needs-immediate-replacement serpentine belt. πŸ™

  4. Pray ball!

  5. Amanda Zajui B. foregoes last two seasons at Minnesota, declares for the WNBA draft. Just let that sink in for a moment.

    1. That sounds either like an endorsement of the WNBA or an indictment of the NCAA (or both, I suppose.)

      1. I'd venture to guess that women have even a shorter window in which to capitalize on their athletic talents professionally, so the opportunity costs of college might be proportionally higher for elite players.

the real money for women is overseas.

        1. also, there's this:

Zahui B is from Sweden and is eligible because she will turn 22 during the calendar year of the draft.

        2. the real money for women is overseas.

This is why I was thinking it might be an endorsement for the WNBA. Although now I am remembering that they play at a slightly different time of year than overseas leagues.

  6. I now have $1,800 cash burning a hole in my pocket, and one fewer vehicles on my insurance or in my driveway. I wonder if I can get reservations at the French Laundry for tonight?

    1. I officially put the french laundry on the list of restaurants to eat at before I die, and the good dr. said, "good luck".

      1. The key is to call right when they open each morning to see what they have available in three months....

      1. essentially "I come to the game and I work hard and try to do my best, and I don't know why he wouldn't do the same" but with some additional fineable embellishments

  7. Hey -- kind of forgot about this:

    TIMBERWOLVES RACE TO THE BOTTOM
    67 Losses: 1991-92, 2009-10
    65 Losses: 2010-11
    63 Losses: 1992-93
    62 Losses: 1993-94
    61 Losses: 1994-95
    60 Losses: 2007-08, 2014-2015

      1. When you think about the pieces that were on this team as compared to the two 67 loss teams, this is a far more disappointing season.

        1. Thank goodness Ricky was injured for most of it so he'll still be pure next year.

        2. Disappointing based on preseason expectations or looking back on the season and should have done better? I'd give the team more of a pass on this season because of injuries, especially since Rubio, Pek and Martin all played in less than half the games.

  8. I've ended up at a Viking themed pub (not the f**tball team) in Muncie tonight. I had a pizza.

But I also had a ZOMG!

Since there are no tv's in here, I am one of three people in the bar who don't work here... and it's almost 7:00.

    1. And now there's effing heavy metal on the jukebox. I might have actually died and gone to Valhalla.

          1. We lived in Portland for a few years when I was young, 6th through 9th grades. Just 30 minutes northeast. My mom finished up her teaching degree at Ball State.

            1. I'm walking past the main part of campus right now. Damn shame you aren't d still down here.

I'm in town to visit a glass plant in Dunkirk.

              1. Oh, Jebus. Every year some of the Oklahoma kin would come visit and we always had to go to the glass factory store in Dunkirk to shop the seconds. Our family is lousy with Indiana Glass.

      1. I have never had a Schell's I didn't enjoy. If I see it, I'll get it, especially since i will have a lunch or two i "missed" that i can find some other way to spend.

        1. Warning to you and Twayn:
Snowstorm is a completely different beer every year. The Wee Heavy was done 4 winters ago, IIRC.
They've had some really good ones (Stout, Wee Heavy), some pretty good ones (Biere de Noel, Grand Cru), and some pretty forgettable ones (something fruity).
Looks like I can't access Beer Advocate at work, so I can't tell you what the lame ones were.

          1. I did know that. I hadn't clicked the link to see that it was a Snowstorm. I know I've had the weizenbock and I feel like I've had the scotch ale, but can't recall right now. The weizenbock was really good.

            1. I bought a lot (24) of the Wee Heavy as it was going off the shelves.
I may still have one bottle in my basement.
Probably waited too long on it though...

              1. Yeah, you may have. Although the worst case is that it'll taste like vinegar. Won't kill you!

            1. I've had some, and have another or two in my fridge (aging suggested on the label!).
Definitely unlike anything I've ever had.

  9. In Napa. The mrs is getting a massage. I am nursing a Racer 5 and rooting for Bucky. Also, free wine tasting nightly at our hoteln tonight was Andretti (zoom!) with a pinot grigio and a cab. Not bad.

    1. Nigel Hayes got them off the schneid and is looking good. They need to start hitting more than 39% - fixing that's on Koenig, Kaminsky, and Dekker.

    2. This has been a fun basketball to watch, although the first half had more flow .

  10. I'm not a physicist, but video from two angles showing the ball alter its rotation seems like pretty clear evidence.

    1. Yes, plus he's moving his hand forward but the middle finger is moved back by the ball. I just don't know if the refs are seeing the same replays as the TV audience.

  11. Had a fabulous lunch at Tra Vigne. This vacation stuff is pretty awesome. I should start a Gofundme campaign.

We split a lasagna-like layered winter squash dish for appetizer. She had a wood-fired pizza with camembert and roasted garlic (oh, yea! We could have split it and been satisfied). I had a half-order each of rigatoni carbonara with guanciale, and papparadelle with a rabbit ragu. Both were awesome.

  12. A bunch of us old-timers should start a new feature: Empty Nesters Know Best. Talk about fancy restaurants we went to, intimacy without being busted by all-ears teenagers, afford to shop at Whole Foods, vacations that don't include theme parks, etc.

    1. Good call, free.

This was, I think, only the third time in 20+ years we have gone anywhere overnight without at least one kid in tow, and the first with none at home to check in on. It was glorious.

    2. If my nest was never full, could it be empty now? Because I get to do all sorts of awesome stuff, like hang with minor celebrities in the VIP section of a Sturgill Simpson show.
