Cool, yes, but not always practical in application. There's a guy who invented an ambient sound sensor to control the volume of jukeboxes. As people talking raised their voices to be heard above the jukebox, the jukebox responded by increasing the volume based on the higher level of ambient sound. The result in any somewhat crowded environment was always a jukebox blaring at top volume and people shouting their conversations. I keep the ambient light sensor on my laptop turned off because it causes a screen flicker that's incredibly annoying and gives me headaches. Also, the more complex a system, the more prone it is to failure.

This is what beta testing is for.
This is the same Science is Cool company that I used to work for that introduced the possibility of HUD in automobiles back in the '80s -- where is that now? I'd much rather have adaptive steering than lighting.
I completely understand the firestorm of criticism created by ii's completely ignorant tweet (which I think is probably a kind way of putting it.). However, at the same time, I have to wonder are the critics saying that if you cheer for Mayweather then you're supporting domestic violence? (For the record, I had very little interest in the fight either way). Is it not "okay" to cheer for an athlete that has been convicted of domestic violence or other violent crime and done his time? What about PED users? When Ervin Santana comes back, are we "allowed" to cheer for him without making it look like we're supporting PEDs or other forms of cheating?
so, the Mrs just did a "photo shoot" with The Girl in the back yard to get a suitable Senior picture for graduation announcements. Naturally, she picks an angle and location that shows off to maximum effect the streaking in my fenceboards (due to not using galvanized nails, totallymybad). Really???
Thank goodness for GIMP.
Obviously, I need to work on my GIMP-fu. But the image on the left is the ugly truth, and the one on the right is what it looks like after some spraypainting in GIMP.
Also, yea, my Man Card.... Sigh.
But the roses look nice! So I got that going for me.
The Diamondbacks and Dodgers are in a scoreless tie in the thirteenth inning. Scoreless extra-inning games are cool.
And about two or three minutes after I type that, Yasmani Grandal hits a walkoff home run for the Dodgers.
Things I learned this afternoon:
1. Sometimes a forecast for rainstorms with hail is accurate.
2. Hail smaller than 1/4" in diameter doesn't really hurt when it hits a person's body.
3. Once the hail starts getting larger than that, it's a good idea to take shelter.
4. Effective shelter can involve standing under the eaves of a neighbor's garage.
5. Even small hail can leave welts on a person's arms, legs, and stomach.
6. While said welts are not painful, they nonetheless look rather impressive.
7. The welts fade within a few hours.
8. Next time I see dark clouds gathering, I'll likely take a closer look at the forecast before going out.
Gardenhire in Milwaukee would be amazing because he'd be reunited with Carlos Gomez, Matt Garza, and Kyle Lohse. I fear for his office door.
Both the Twins and Wild play and they are at different times! horray!
and the Wild game will be done before 11 pm, hooray!
Nice new Dubnyk banner, person who made that!
Science is cool!

With Mayweather, its a bit different because of the shady ways all the evidence gets destroyed.

It's Craig Counsell instead, at least for now.
