I've barely seen our surprising home squad in the past few weeks thanks to my work schedule, and they were off on my day off yesterday. If they keep winning I'll have to start ignoring scores to watch the games later.

At first I read that last sentence as "I'll have to start ignoring customers to watch the games."
That makes more sense, yes. Make it so.
I'm going to be in Alsip for a wedding this weekend -- sure wish I could figure out how to get up to The Cell...
How well do you know the couple and would your wife notice you were missing?
It's my daughter's best friend, and unfortunately yes.
Tonight would have been the best opportunity.
Live News Update: It could happen.
Good luck, man.
Some good reading for your Friday morning.

Heh. I almost shared that one last night as a contrast to Trueblood's piece on the A's, which basically have been as unlucky as the Twins have been lucky.
reminds me to check out those links...
And that's what makes baseball such an awesome game. We know it's not likely that the Twins will keep winning this much--but they might. We expect them to fall apart--but they might not. It's baseball, and as Joaquin Andujar told us so many years ago, the best word to describe it is youneverknow.
The first comment. Wow.
Words cannot describe how irritated I'd be if they did that.
The comments don't get particularly better after that, but at least there aren't a lot of them.
Me, too. My rant on Vargas going down would be nothing compared to that.
I missed this historic event recently: Bartolo Colon hits an infield single. Hahaha!
With Brian McCann catching, no less!MLB has a higher quality version. Can't embed because mlb.com's certificate is bad.
Molina a "Platinum Glove winner"
Colon's "sprint" down the line is my new favoritest thing.
I've tried downloading the Merlin bird app (via Cornell's All About Birds) on my iPad but had no success for some unclear reason or other. I'm curious if any citizens have this app, solutions to downloading problems, or recommendations on other birding apps?
I have it on the ol' iPhone, but haven't had any problems using it. It seems pretty thorough. Sounds and maps are good.
Sorry, I use: BOOK (many, I refer to Sibley, Crossley, Stokes, and NatGeo generally, plus Peterson and the Warbler Guide for warblers, Crossley and Liguori for Raptors, Eckert and Jannsen for Minnesota).
and: MP3 set (more and more just the Cornell Master Set, but also some Peterson and Feith for learning, and again the Warbler Guide for warblers).
Not mentioned anywhere: Tekiela. Good kids' starter book, but it only has about 60% of the species I expect to see each year, and less of the ones I'm lucky to see.
No better a reference than the old Golden first guide, except with up-to-date species and range maps.
Illinois' finest are out en masse this weekend.
We're heading that way tomorrow. Looks like the cruise control's going to get a workout..
Are they using scmods?
You know it.
I hate the Illinois state nazis.
Couldn't they just do an annual pledge drive to raise money like PBS? It would be some much more convenient for everyone.
Headed to Seattle for the long weekend. Really looking forward to it because I've never been to that fair city. Just going to check out the neighborhoods, restaurants, bars, etc. Probably most touristy thing we do is the Space Needle. Plus going out on a ferry to do some whale watching.
Also, thanks to long lost citizen Ubelmann, we are going to a Sounders MLS match! That will be fun.
Anyway as always look for me on social media, I am sure I will post pics.
I am still convinced that Ubelmann doesn't exist. I also believe he secretly works for the Twins. I have no problem with this contradiction.
Heck, if he's the Twins' advanced statistics guy, it makes sense that he doesn't actually exist.
I knew the Philosofer could solve my existential crisis!
That's so brilliant I gotta wear shades.
I met him during his days as a MN resident.
That is what everyone says. I was there but he "left" before I got there.
I have a photo of him. Or at least of a man claiming to be him.
Does this make you the predecessor to DPWY?
Say hi to Ubelmann from the basement.
I once posted at the old site about how in the far future, alien children would be acting out 'WGOM The Opera', and fighting over who gets to play the role of Ubelmann.
Minor Details are caught up. Unfortunately, they will probably immediately fall behind again, as I have unexpectedly been called out of town (pastor-related, not family-related), and probably will not be back until sometime tomorrow. Did someone say Cruel Schedule?
Father Knows Best is finally up.
Area Baseball Satirist 'Completely Flummoxed' By Twins' Competence
I'm going to an event tonight to raise money for Achilles CT, a group that volunteers to help people with disabilities participate in sporting events. It's at the Thomas Hooker Brewery in Bloomfield (8 min drive for me) - beer tasting and ribs from a local rib joint.
I've had their beer sometimes after races but only like IPA - I'll post a review later of their both beer and ribs. Curious if anyone else has heard of them.
Yes, I have heard of beer and ribs.
I'm actually on very good terms with them both.
A friend raised a lot of money for her charity group tonite, Achilles - go Cindy!
At Thomas Hooker Brewery, on the rib-joint front - Bear's Smokehouse - burnt ends rocked. Pulled pork was passable..
On the beer front, I tried 3: Hooker IPA, Tenacious Belgium IPA, and Liberator Dopplebock. All were quite good. Good to go in that order. OK 4, I also tried a taste of the Watermelon Ale. Lite, but transcendent. Definately a summer beer.
That could be the best thing for him and the Twins in the long run. He could be for the Twins what Wade Davis is for the Royals.
I'd be more frustrated by this if May hadn't shown that he can be a starter in the majors. May was originally the one projected to most likely go to the bullpen, so they've kind of reversed situations. Plus the Twins are suddenly getting a lot more starting pitching prospects looking like they're close to not only contributing in the majors soon but possibly dominating.
Hunter-Mauer-Plouffe, not poesy.
