May 27, 2015: Another Harsh Lesson

Sour Cream's best friends are a pair of twins, and they're moving to Utah in a couple of weeks. It's incredible how many of my daughters' friends have moved away in the last few years.

    1. I really do hope something good comes of this, but the cynic says things will be business as usual at FIFA.

      1. I heard on the radio that the case has been building for years, and especially out of the Brooklyn office, which is where the new AG Lynch just came from. I'm sure she's more than familiar with the details. If anything, due to the general lack of interest, America is probably one of the more neutral places for this to play out. But yeah, it will be interesting to see how it goes.

    2. They're going to go ahead and re-elect the guy while all this is going on? I don't care if he wasn't specifically named. This all happened while he was in charge. He should be kicked out immediately. He should have resigned.

      1. Blatter and his cronies aren't accountable to anyone (beyond perhaps sponsors, and even then). Why would he voluntarily remove himself from a license to print money?

I got sick of the NCAA and cut college sports out. How FIFA resolves this could end up me cutting soccer out too.

  1. Just because I'm still amazed...
    AL Wild Card Standings:
    HOU: +3.0
    KCR: +2.0
    MIN: +1.0
    DET: -
    NYY: -2.5
    TBR: -3.0
    TEX: -3.5 (.500)
    LAA: -3.5 (.500)

    1. I really want to see the Twins, Astros and Rays winning their divisions this year. How awesome would that be? And the Royals being the host wildcard team would be awesome as well.

  2. Another blowout. I expected ATL to make a stand, and given the way Cleveland kind of lucked into that game 3 victory, I was thinking hey, ATL gets game 4, wins at home in game 5 and sets up a big time game 6. Then LeBron and Co. came out and stepped on their collective neck. That was a championship caliber team out there last night.

    1. CLE -- In the Finals. Eight days of rest for Kyrie. LeBron in beast mode last night. Their front line was outstanding. James Jones, five consecutive Finals appearances, first time since the 60s Celtics dynasty that that's happened. Also one other guy with that distinction.
    2. GSW -- When they get to the Finals, I'll have them as a slight favorite. But, they aren't in yet.
    3. HOU -- The most maddening team in the playoffs. When on, they are as good as anyone. But, they have spent way too much time not being on. Still, though, they were one possession from this being a 2-2 series. GSW would still be the favorite if this was a 2-2 series, but they would have a puncher's chance.

    1. Past performance is no guarantee of future results. πŸ˜‰

I expected more fight out of them too.

      1. I've gone from zero to caught up on VEEP in about a week.

1.) I am a great binge TV watcher, especially when holed up in a hotel room with my iPad and HBOGO.
2.) JLD is terrific in that show.

        1. "The Thick of It" is from the same creator and has roughly the same concept of a sweary boss and semi inept underlings in a political setting, only this is a very loud Scottish man. Last I saw, it was available on hulu.

  3. Idea I had last night while playing cribbage with the roommate: super cribbage

Get a second deck with everything the negative of the first. Get points for not only 15s and pairs, but also -15s and anti-pairs (pairs of two negative cards are obviously just a pair). The only question I got stuck on was is it a 104 card deck, or 108 with four 0s?

    1. Bigger hands?
I once played anti-cribbage with the FiL, trying to not get points.
First to the end lost. It was hard.

  4. Grumblegrumble. The Good Faith Estimate shows that the mortgage rate we've been quoted comes at a half-point cost. That was the first said point cost was mentioned. "We'll give you rate X" they said, not "We'll give you rate X if you pay half-point at Y amount." I suppose this is typical (?), but it's pissing me right off. The difference is roughly .6% of the total they stand to make off of us on this loan, so I've asked them to forgo it. I suspect they'll balk, and we'll cave, but dammit, I'm asking.
