  1. The trinket started her first day of 4K about half an hour ago. That means I have about 10 hours of good health left.

      1. I'm concerned because my daughter has never really been in a big group of kids day in and day out because my wife stays at home. So I don't know what our immune systems are gonna be like for all the germs floating around in there.

  2. AMR, I would have been better prepared, but my bus was so late I figured I'd already missed my chance to see you.

    1. I was late, too.
      First day of school breakfast.
My backup to my backup bus; it might get me in too late.

  3. So I've already finished both "Ready Player One" and "The Martian". I got them both last Thursday. I'll have something to contribute on Monday, if the Book Club isn't postponed for the holiday.

  4. Does anyone have experience (Zack?) with the virtual console on a Wii? I'm thinking about getting Ocarina of Time, but I'm curious how gameplay is on a Wiimote+nunchuck vs. a Gamecube controller.

    1. I could never bring myself to use the Wii remote + nunchuk for any Virtual Console stuff. The Gamecube controller is a better option, but I'd recommend getting a Classic Controller Pro for cheap. It's probably the best VC controller since it's a solid replacement for basically all the different controllers.

      1. I'll second this recommendation, I thought it did a great job with Nintendo and Super Nintendo games, specifically. Nobody makes a d-pad like Nintendo.

The first version at least used to be pretty cheap if you could find it at a GameStop, not sure if that is still the case though.

    2. Yeah I'll second the gamecube controller. I might have an extra one in the basement. I'll check for you.

Update: Hit the refresh button Eric. I'll third it.

  5. My daughters loved the Zelda franchise, especially Ocarina of Time. Thanks for bringing back the memory.

    1. "Ocarina of Time" was the first Zelda game I ever played, which is why I asked about it in particular. Lots of good memories for me, too.

      1. Zelda is one of those games that opinion really hinges on which was the first one you played. Of course, as an exception, I played the very first one, but still love Link to the Past the best. I also like the widely panned Zelda II, but that's more because of its uniqueness amongst all the different titles.

Ocarina just didn't do it for me. The 3D was weird and I never ended up finishing it. I also never owned an N64, so there's that.

Wind Waker was okay, but all the sailing got tiresome.

        1. I think that's a reasonable assumption. The first one I ever played was the original, but the first amazing one I played was Ocarina of Time, which I adore. I only recently played A Link to the Past, which was great but nostalgic memories of Ocarina overpower it.

  6. David Pinto at Baseball Musings always comes up with scenarios for massive ties requiring several extra playoffs. Here is his best-case scenario for this year.

    1. The following results would allow the five teams to end the season tied at 93 wins:

      Rangers 25-7
      Twins 26-6
      Angels 28-3
      Rays 28-3
      Indians 29-3

      ...

Of course, if the five team played this well, they would possibly draw Houston, New York, or Toronto back to the pack. A six-way tie for the second wild card that included a three-way tie for the AL East or AL West would be amazing. I believe it would take five days to decide who gets into the playoffs.

Five days just to decide the play-in game? Yes please. Helps that it involves the Twins playing really well.

    2. Anyone with that kind of enthusiasm for massive ties is a hero. I'd prefer the Twins get in outright, but I would still thoroughly enjoy his scenario.

      1. Somehow the Twins take WC#1 and then the cluster involves the Yankees instead? Yes, yes, that'll do nicely.

        1. I was thinking last night that, if the Twins do make it into the playoffs, there's a good chance they'd play the Yankees in the play-in game. What I decided is that I don't care. I didn't, and really still don't, expect them to make it at all, so if they lose right away it won't make me feel that bad. And if, by chance, they would knock the Yankees out in the play-in game, how great would that be?

          1. Co-sign. Everything after the next three wins is improvement over last year, so let's just ride this long as we can and enjoy it while it lasts.

              1. I'm a "one step at a time" man myself. I'm gonna enjoy the play on the field before I try to worry about anything the FO may or may not do. Not gonna let worry and speculation ruin what's been an above-expectations year from an on-field perspective.

  7. A day late, but it's Invisibles time! Turns out the one we missed last week was

    Number 4 SelectShow

It always makes me feel better when I haven't even heard of the one(s) we couldn't get!

Anyway, onward to this week's quiz. I only got three this time:

    '1, 2, 3' SelectShow

I feel like I've seen the image from number 7 on an invisibles quiz before, but I still can't place it. Do they ever repeat images like that?

    1. I wanna say #7 is [SEE BELOW], but that's purely a gut-feeling guess. I have nothing to back that up, but it feels right.

      'Spoiler' SelectShow
      1. I guessed that, but it wasn't it. Incidentally, you can always check your answers. Enter your answer and submit, and it will tell you how many out of the 8 you got correct.

      1. I do not remember that scene from #5.

        #4 SelectShow
    2. They do not repeat images, and they don't repeat movies...at least I can't remember them repeating one, unless maybe for the special Robin Williams week or something.
