It's the next best thing to an actual holiday off with my family!

Today is the last day of the minor league regular season. Cedar Rapids is home against Clinton at noon (Central), Rochester is at Lehigh Valley at 12:30, and Chattanooga is home against Jackson at 1:15. Chattanooga and Cedar Rapids will both be in the playoffs. The Kernels begin their playoffs Wednesday and the Lookouts open Thursday.
Yum. A little dry, and even more smoke would have been nice, but... Ribs. Yum.
did you wrap the ribs in foil for the last 30 minutes or so? That will help prevent drying, although it does kind of steam them a bit.
oh, that is good.
also a water pan over the heat helps keep the cooking space moist. Double edged sword though, as moisture is the enemy of smoke flavor.
I usually keep the drip pan (with some boiling water to start) betwixt the coals. Keeps humidity up, but doesn't seem to inhibit smoke too much. Hadn't even thought about the effect on smoke flavor....
I assume by "figured out" you meant you bought a charcoal grill or smoker? 😉
I'm smoking a tri-tip to go with grilled sweet corn and a salad.
Homemade with foil pan. I had some applewood on hand, so that necessitated figuring something out.
Ideas for creating more smoke from that sort of thing? Sites I checked recommended indirect heat for the smoker, but I found direct heat worked much, much better... So I would alternate throughout the process, never quite willing to trust either myself or the Internet.
Molitor's comments on Hughes / Duffey was another obvious hint that Mike Pelfrey may be pitching for his job Wednesday.
I'm not much of a fan of Pelfrey, but it seems a little silly, this far into the season, to have the decision on whether he stays in the rotation hinge on one start.
No, but if that "one start" is the last in a series of less-than-stellar starts, it's not really a decision hinging on one start.

An update on the massive tie scenario.
I've figured out smoking ribs on my gas grill. Update after eating.
