I was up for all of 3 seconds before I crushed my own day. My head went "Sore? Yes, so practice yesterday. Practice means Thursday. Today's Friday! No, wait, practice also means Tuesday. Shit."
Oops, that should be 12:05. No doubt those 5 minutes will make all the difference . . .
Bummer, I have rugby
HPR is selling Cub Scout Popcorn from 10-11 on Saturday, and then we're at the Coon Rapids Dam Walkway official re-opening celebration (though the walkway opened July 1).
Otherwise, maybe he would have been interested.
Due to a series of rainouts on Tuesday night, today's slate will feature three doubleheaders, each of which carries postseason implications. This is the latest calendar date to feature at least three doubleheaders, regardless of the teams involved, since the introduction of the Wild Card in 1995. Furthermore, it's only the sixth time overall that three doubleheaders will be played on the same day at any point in September.
...
Today's games will not only be the latest trio of doubleheaders, but they will also involve the most postseason implications. While none of those aforementioned dates featured more than four teams playing with postseason ramifications, five out of the six teams involved in today's doubleheaders have postseason aspirations at stake.
...
Playing further into October is less of a long shot for the Twins, who have an elimination number of five for the second AL Wild Card spot. "It's hard to win one game, you know," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "I'm sure there are statistics that support various theories about doubleheaders on the road. But you can't worry about those things tomorrow. You have to look at it as two opportunities to win."
I'm sorta still feeling out the new Craig Finn album, which also means I'm still figuring whether I'm getting tickets for when he's in town in October (24th and 25th).
We were chirping about Hunter's mid-season slide, but I don't recall any of us saying too much about Dozier's poor second half.
"I won’t go into much detail, but I’m having trouble getting (extension)," Dozier told the Pioneer Press’s Mike Berardino last Sunday. "I can take getting out. I get out a lot. Everybody does. But pitches that I’m supposed to hit off the wall, I’ve been struggling with due to a couple of things. I’ve been trying to find ways around it. It’s starting to feel better, but the past couple of weeks I’m having trouble getting extended, getting my top hand through the ball."
That sounds a bit like he's injured or wore down early in the season.
"I'm Torii Hunter, and I approve of this comment."
Some of the comments surmised the same and mentioned how nice it'd be to have real, live utility infielders to get him a day off now and then, especially now that EE appears to have locked down the SS position. I mean, they do have internal options (Santana, Nunez, Polanco), but there's also a few decent, affordable middle infielders who appear to be UFA's (Sean Rodriguez, Kelly Johnson, Cliff Pennington ... take a run at Ben Zobrist?) in 2016.
Did everyone see this stuff: Torii Hunter, MVP candidate
It is amazing to me that a franchise with Buxton, Rosario, Hicks, and Kepler in the system is probably going to make an effort to bring Hunter back next year.
Not the only one to suggest that. I keep referring back to here, though.
Not that I care how much they sign Hunter for. The team has money to burn. But I imagine they feel he's been worth $15-20 million this year and they got a killer deal. I imagine him getting a raise in 2016.
I don't think they bring him back.
A raise?? No.
Before I read that, I thought it was team MVP he was making a case for. Even there, LOL. But League MVP?
I am greatly amused by students that routinely show up at 10:10 for a 10 o'clock class asking if they can start the exam for said class 20 minutes early.
But clearly their schedule is so important! Everyone should bend over backward to accommodate them! Maybe you could consider starting class 10 minutes late, to make sure they don't miss anything?
Then they'd come twenty minutes late.
Bruh, I've been here the whole time.
If the matrix isn't enough, here's the full docket of potential outcomes after today's #MNTwins double header. pic.twitter.com/MIkVNojfUr
It has been a long time since I've felt so impatient for a baseball game.
Probably almost five years, exactly.
178 days for me.
Is that how long ago Opening Day was? Cuz that's me too.
Yes. Even expecting the Twins to not compete at all it's still one of the days I look forward to each year.
Yup, I think it should be a national holiday. But in that case, I'm waiting for the day, and not a particular game.
Opening Day is always way up there, but there's something about playoff chase baseball.
Also, Opening Day is often dampened by the fact that the games are generally on weekdays, and in the afternoon. Not that this one isn't, but...
Every opening day that I've lived in NOLA I've called in sick to hang with some guys to watch parts of all games available through mlb ticket. It's a day I look forward to every year.
Trevor May is available to pitch today. Probably will only get one inning, but at least the Twins will get that much.
While the Twins had to face Carrasco today, the Angels are facing the living corpse of Barry Zito. It's scoreless through 2 innings. Maybe if it stays that way for a while, the Twins can get an early lead in Game 2 and put pressure on the Angels.

I have an extra ticket to Saturday's game (which has been moved to 12:10) if anyone is interested.

That's some serious trolling is what that is.
Kershaw is just obscenely good.

Cool - thanks bud!
Bottom left corner, here we go!
At the end of this day, assuming all games are played, the Twins will be anywhere from tied to 3 games out with 4 games to play.
