Snarky response to no responses lately. Sorry, I'm combative recently.

I'm a pretty big Oasis fan, but the popularity of this song (at least relative to the rest of their stuff) is baffling to me.
It's always been one of my last favorites from their early albums.
Not a very inspired performance as well. Is it just me, or did they seem to be just going through the motions?
(yes, hence...)
oh, crap -- sorry to have responded!
you've ruined my best laid plans!
pay me back when it's my turn to post my Best of '16 track
the popularity of this song... is baffling to me
It was the first single after "Wonderwall", right?
I believe so. It's also (in my opinion) both the worst and most bloated song on that album.
According to the repository "Don't Look Back In Anger" was between the two.
I'd agree with the general assessment here. I don't dislike this song, but it is far from my favorite. I love the album, and it has so many other great choices that I am perplexed about this one's popularity.
That was the British release schedule. In the U.S., Wonderwall peaked in Winter 1995-96, Supernova in April 1996, and Anger in July 1996.
Radio release dates and Video premieres are hard to come by.
Nibs: I'm a pretty big Oasis fan
Philo: I love the album
Not to be obtuse, but why? What am I missing? I listened to Oasis in the mid-90s, but their music didn't really stick with me after that. I mean . . . the lead signer's voice is just so whiny.
Haha, I swear I didn't mean to do it, but 250K, y'all!!!!
Yeah, I've never really been impressed with them.
Noel really knows how to writesteal borrow an engaging hook. The singing is an acquired taste, but if you acquire it, it just works.
At the time, it just sounded different than anything I was listening to (which made me think that maybe I'd like Britpop, but only a few other things stuck), and they sort of grew from there. For a while, I'd have to say they were my favorite band.
I mentioned to Pepper in an e-mail that I think they just have great songwriting. Great structure, strong hooks, inventive enough that it wasn't boring, etc.
I'm with nibs. This performance, though, pretty blasé.
Yeah, this performance is boring, and of a lesser song.
Thanks for sharing these additional thoughts, Oasis likers!

Nicely deployed.
