While freealonzo gets situated, we obviously must take the time to recognize an amazing soul that graced us with his time on this planet. We are all so much richer for it. The list of contributions are far too long to try to tick off, and I'm sure many words far more meaningful than mine will be spoken in the coming weeks, but I can imagine how cathartic it was for all those kids growing during his rise to have someone to turn to and think, hey, I don't have to fit into a box. This isn't weird. This is cool.

When Ewan McGregor's character in Moulin Rouge quoted this song in the big medley, I laughed out loud in the theater.
It seems really absurd if 90% of the time you've heard the song, it's this Glass-y version:

You watched Moulin Rouge in the theater? I laughed out loud.
Bowie even had a shout-out in yesterday's Simpsons episode.
Bowie is so flippin' sexy in this video, I'm getting a hot and bothered just watching him.
Once I showed my wife a video of this song from this time period, you know the message was "WE could be heroes..." After the video ended she was like that was a nice sentiment but you're not as cool as David Bowie. I hope she runs in to him up there.
o.k. I'm sharing that story on FB.
He'll agree with her. You're not as cool. Few will ever be.
I can't put into words what Bowie meant to me. One day, maybe, not now. First Lou Reed, now this. The pantheon is filling with ghosts.
Watching the BBC doc Cracked Actor, made in 75--post Ziggy / pre-Berlin era. Bowie fans will want to watch.
David Bowie- sexy, cool, but not arrogant. Saw so many interviews today in which he was so interested in other peoples lives and points of view. Such an interesting person who didn't give a crap about what people thought of him, but deeply cared about what people thought. His influence on the music scene transcended all genres. So cool in do many ways.
I recommend this documentary if you haven't seen it.
