This is the fourth day I've had to use this year already, with three being for my daughters. Actual vacations in the near future are looking less likely.

Haven't you worked there for like 40 years? How much time do you get?
My neighbor is all over the news this week after fighting off a shark attack.
That's really cool.
ooo, point p-man.
That's some biting humor.
Boooooooooooooooooo
My excitement for the 2016 Twins season just hit a red brick wall.
Is Red Sox envy a good thing?
Every team has similar BP jerseys.
...You mean these are for actual games?
Looks like they are ditching the blue alternate. I thought it was widely accepted that red uniforms were bad luck for the Twins and should never be tried again. I guess not. At least we already know where 13 of the Twins' losses will be coming from.
Looks like they are ditching the blue alternate.
Not according to St. Peter.
Lame. I hate having a thousand uniforms per team.
Small market teams gotta cash grab!
still waiting on that powder blue...
Paul Molitor must like the red jerseys
Are we still doing ampersands?
Too long.
I still have an affinity for ampersands. I probably didn't fully understand everything in that piece, but I love this:
"Of course, the symbol also looks like nothing so much as a knot about to be tied."
"In the alphabet recited by nineteenth-century schoolchildren, it followed Z."
Now was that American or British schoolchildren? Did it follow "Zee" or "Zed"?
Wikipedia wormhole...
Looking this up, I see that Æ is called "Ash", Œ is called "Ethel", Ƿ is called "Wynn", and Þ is "Thorn".
That would be a really nerdy way to name one's kids, but also cool in that they can use just one [obsolete] letter for their name.
Furthermore, I find the radial symmetry in the lowercase Ash: æ to be quite attractive.
Too bad the name is a little too trendy.
30th anniversary of the Challenger crash. I was unaware of this aspect of it.
Nor I. Chilling.
gee whiz
that I did know.
I knew of that, but always heard it as more of a possibility than a certainty. Everyone in the program knows what they are signing up for, but still doesn't look good for NASA there.
I remember hearing something about that quite a while ago and trying very hard to unhear it, as I couldn't bear to think about it.
Wife's car and another car were broken into during lunch while were were working out at the Y. Only thing taken was a purse, and we cancelled the credit & debit cards (no activity) but we're out some cash and have a window to replace, as well as a driver's license and a safe deposit box key.
Some wankers nabbed my car's CD player back in the day. They were kind enough to go through that little tiny window on the back door.
The most expensive window in the car.
Really? It was quite cheap. Some guy came out and installed it in 5 minutes. Was less than $100, IIRC.
Usually that small window is the most expensive because thieves break it to get into your car. (In my experience... three of those little windows in three different cars)
The Landau window?
This guy. Doesn't go up or down, so the dude showed up, unscrewed the door frame, popped in a new window, and voilà!
believe that is the Landau window
That's why I just leave my car unlocked. (ok, the fact that I lost the electronic key and the manual luck on the door won't move is the real reason.) of course, the cd player it's worth more than the car itself, so it's probably not a very tempting target.

Done.
List of greatest athletes from each state. They go with McHale for Minnesota. I think a good case could be made for Winfield, Molitor and even Mauer, especially if you include Winfield and Mauer's excellence in other sports. You could even make a case for Bronko Nagurski if you are OK with him not living in Minnesota until the age of 5.
no, Dan Patch!
McHale certainly can lay claim to best basketball player from the state. But best athlete?
Winfield, Mauer, Ernie Nevers, and Paul Giel would be on my short list. Probably a couple of women that I am forgetting...oh, Lindsey Vonn.
Janet Karvonen.
I remember watching those NY Mills teams in the state tournament on TV.
I was trying to find some history from the 1970s era, because I remember Austin having some dominant girls teams (they lost in the semifinals of the first statewide AA tournament in 1976). And I discovered this interesting tidbit: the alma mater had a women's basketball team in 1893, only two years after the game was invented. Kewl.
Basketball became a game for women quite soon after Naismith invented it. Here's a nice bio of Senda Berenson, who brought it to Smith College, the first place where women played it.
yeah, thought of her; she knocked our girls team out of state back in the day
This has been trending today on Facebook. Is my mental math confused or something?
Books are due back 10 years after you check them out in Michigan
That was my eventual "assumption" as well...
Was it Tropic of Cancer?
ten year old story got recycled?
