2016 Game 75: Twins at Yankees

First Pitch - 12:05 p.m. CDT

Tyler Duffy (2-6, 6.18 ERA, 1.445 WHIP)
Nathan Eovaldi (6-4, 5.02 ERA, 1.351 WHIP)

Twenty games out of first place in the division before the All-Star break is pretty bad. There's no coming back with that albatross around your neck. But even in failure there's opportunity, if only the FO would see it. The past is written and the present is a cluster[redacted], so you have to look to the future and let the kids play. This year is not a waste if Molitor uses it to give the new nucleus of this team some valuable major league experience. With that in mind, Tyler Duffy will try to shut down the Yankees lineup while Nathan Eovaldi tries the same with ours. Neither pitcher has fared very well on the mound recently, so I expect something less than a pitcher's duel today.

Play ball!

  1. I'm out for a walk in the park with newbish. I've got the game on the radio on my Sony Walkman that I found in an old box a while back. Still a solid radio, even in the cassette player probably won't get as much use as it did when I was 11.

  2. Nice catch by Santana there.

When do we usually note the status of the pitcher? After 5?

    1. After the first batter. I don't start really thinking about it until after five or six innings.

        1. That's a good time. Once through the order plus again for the top of the order. I think that's why I like the fifth, because it's after 1-6 so the best hitters have already been dispatched twice.

    1. After a failed sac bunt and caught stealing for the two outs of the inning, so... TWINS BASEBALL!!!!!

  3. There was an interesting Fangraphs article the other day about Dozier's heating up and how it's not as much to do with hitting the other way.

  4. Now if we can just keep Jepsen from getting in the game there's a good chance the Twins can win this.

      1. The "decent though never truly appreciated" pitcher who probably isn't as good as I think he is, but I'll cheer for him no matter where he goes.

    1. Out of the Baker, Slowey, and Garza triplet, Baker ended up with the best career so far. But, he's out of baseball and Garza isn't so he has a chance to pass him. Garza was doing better but had a very bad 2015. Garza has also made nearly triple the money. Free agency pays well.

    1. Kind of a glad he did get up that run in the eighth. Now there's less pressure to let him finish the shutout and someone from the pen can mop it up. Like Jepsen for two outs and then someone else to get the save.
