I have a very vivid memory of going to some sort of family reunion, or some big anniversary celebration, whatever, when I was a kid. There was an accordion player there, and he was excellent. I remember sitting and watching him,not the dancers or the other kids, or anything else. It was definitely a polka kind of thing, but more than that. That started my appreciation. So for me, I'll take the polkas too (TY Weird Al), but I love when it gets used other places.
Washboard solo!
Some dust must have fallen in my eye...
Legit.
I looked up Clifton Chenier when I was a youth, based on the Paul Simon name-check in "That Was Your Mother".
The New Ulm Library had Classic Clifton on LP.
I dubbed it to cassette. So that's all the zydeco I know. "Tu Le Ton Son Ton" was my favorite, or at least the one I can remember best. The cassette is probably in a box in my basement.
I forgot my iPod at home today; may have to stream some of that album from youtube for tunes.
Clifton Chenier? The King of the Bayou!?
Yes, those would be the Simon lyrics (sans question marks).
Love me some accordion.
