Marriage by proxy?
"...Kelly Shaffer (now Kelly Breslow) who met Craig at one of his foundation’s fundraisers in 2010."
"Kelly and Craig married in November 2009, 10 days after Breslow won the World Series with the Red Sox."
I've probably listened to the new stereo mix of Sgt. Pepper a dozen times in the last several weeks. I don't know that it makes my top four Beatles albums, but it sounds good enough that I'm rethinking that.
I'm confused: was it only mono before?
There was a story on NPR recently. It was released in both formats, however the band worked hard with the producers on mono mix. The stereo mix was more of an afterthought (for the American market? I forget...) and was rushed through real quick. I think George Martin's son was involved with the new mix?
Yep, I heard that NPR story and that's correct. From Wikipedia:
Although both stereo and monaural mixes of the album were prepared, the Beatles were minimally involved in what they regarded as the less important stereo mix sessions, leaving the task to Martin and Emerick.[93] Emerick recalls: "We spent three weeks on the mono mixes and maybe three days on the stereo.
Regarding new release:
The first CD contains a new stereo remix of the album produced by Giles Martin. Created using modern and vintage technology, the 2017 mix retains more of the idiosyncrasies that were unique to the original mono version of Sgt. Pepper's. Unlike the original album, first-generation tapes were used rather than their subsequent mixdowns, resulting in a clearer and more spacious sound.
Per AG, that was Santana's 2nd CG loss in a Twins uniform. Who has the most?
Blyleven had 242 complete games in his career, so he was 167-75 in those games. 60 of those were shutouts, so he was still 107-75 in complete games in which he allowed at least 1 run.
ERA's mentioned in spoilers, but what were the ERA+'s?
Case in point: Blyleven's ERA in wins was 1.60. His ERA in losses overall was 5.40. In no-decisions his ERA was 3.90.
In Minnesota, his overall ERA was 3.28 which was good for a 119 ERA+, so the composite league average ERA while he was a Twin was 3.90. For comparison, Brad Radke had an overall ERA of 4.22, for an ERA+ of 113, implying a league average ERA of 4.77.
Doing a rough estimate of Blyleven's run support in Minnesota, he was at about 3.8 RS/27outs while he was pitching compared to a league average ERA of 3.90. Radke's run support in Minnesota was 4.4 RS/27outs while he was pitching compared to a league average ERA of 4.77.
Kind of interesting to see that Blyleven's ERA was essentially independent of run support: 3.34 with 0-2 runs, 3.28 with 3-5 runs, and 3.31 with 6+ runs.
independent of run support?!? Jack Morris disapproves!
To be fair, it's harder to pitch to the score when you're leaving the ball up to the tune of 40 homers a season.
*looks at Jack's 1986 HR total* Who are we talking about here?
Decent article on Craig Breslow.

He had 75 complete game losses in his career, which is somehow only good enough for 8th all time; he's one behind Gaylord Perry.

Interesting -- HR/9: Blyleven 0.8, Morris 0.9, Radke 1.2
What were the league averages, though? Just spot checking, I see 1.1 HR/9 in 2002, 1.0 HR/9 in 1986, and 0.6 HR/9 in 1976.
He Who Shall Not Be Named was inflating numbers in 1986.
Non-Metrodome Blyleven was above average in home run prevention. He got strikeouts and kept the ball down.
The WGOM Ethos Has Arrived.
When in doubt, lower your standards.
11:40 at night and it's still 80 degrees outside. Got to love summer.
