Yesterday's CoC was about a large, aging starting pitcher formerly of Cleveland. Missed it by that much.

so, a half-bakef spooky then, eh?
Was watching video of Hildenberger from last night -- I find it interesting how his lead foot steps to the side on off-speed pitches, and (more or less) forwards on the fastball, and how his foot-fall is timed to the ball meeting the catcher's mitt.
Given that the Twins are on the cusp of playoff contention going into the AS break, and 3/5ths of our rotation is on an innings diet, and it's only costing the club league minimum, I can get behind this acquisition.
And it was a what-the-heck move and not a desperation move
eh. maybe a little from column A, a little from column B.

That answers that. I was wondering last night if the coach saw the fielder was throwing to second before waving Buxton in, and it sure looks like he did. I was thinking he might have gotten away with a mistake, but it was really an excellent read.
So last night after Jorge got rocked, we got disgusted and changed the channel on the TV (Richard Engel's' special on Putin). But for some reason I wasn't willing to give up on the game so I wandered into my office and put it on the computer. When we scored our first two but left bases loaded I almost walked away again, but I couldn't. And then... Well. It was one of the most entertaining games of the year, and I was very impressed with the way everyone approached their plate appearances except for Polanco, and that only stood out because it was out of character. I loved Bruno, but I have to tip my cap to Rowson, he's done a great job so far, although there's still some opportunity to improve bunting skills.
Same. We were watching at a local watering hole and almost gave up on them. Came home later and I turned it on, just cause it's hard to give up on these guys. Fun comeback!
I missed the comeback, but I saw the exciting ninth in its entirety. Worth the price of admission.
We're 14 wins from last year's total.
We're 14 wins from last year's total.
This team has been on quite the yo-yo ride these last couple of seasons.
Pythag win % for Twins in '17: .442
'16: .407
'15: .500
'14: .463
This is not nearly as variable as actual win %:

Trevor Hildenberger has a 0.00 ERA, a 1.93 FIP and a 1.09 WHIP in 7.1 IP and 4 apps so far. I sure wish Molitor would use him more than once a week and in more than a mop-up role.
Crazy stuff in today's GCL Twins game: The Twins stole 7 bases and had two players picked off/caught stealing in a 3-0 win. They had 1 player steal both second and third after reaching first. They had 6 singles, 4 walks and a hit batter for 11 total base runners, which meant that of the 11 batters to reach base, 8 of them attempted to steal at least 1 base. Of the 3 that didn't make an attempt to steal, 2 of them walked to load the bases, so they didn't really have an opportunity to steal, so there was only 1 guy the entire game that had the opportunity to steal a base that didn't make the attempt.
Also, my new favorite longshot Twins "prospect" Austin Bizzle had his second appearance out of the bullpen. He was drafted this year as a senior out of Alabama State in the 40th round, which was the Twins' last pick. He has retired all 8 batters he has faced this year on 3 strikeouts and 5 ground balls. You'll probably be seeing more updates on Bizzle from me, especially if he continues to pitch well.
I'm wondering what this says about the other team's catcher.
catcher and/or pitchers needing to work on slide steps.
Byron Buxton and Billy Hamilton both have a career OPS+ of 71. However, Hamilton is 26 and Buxton is 23. Also, Total Zone says Hamilton has been below average on defense this year.
I'm so old, I remember when we were all making (favorable) comparisons between Buxton and Trout.
Brandon Nimmo got called back up to the Mets a few weeks ago. He basically missed all of Spring Training with an injured foot, so he started the season on rehab then got moved up to Las Vegas. SSS caveat, but in 24 PA so far, his line is .350/.458/.400/.858 with a 132 OPS+.
amazing how much difference doing an investigation can make. Maybe the po-po and others in authority should try to be a little more circumspect in their initial public communications in the future?
I think if it wasn't a celebrity involved, the police probably wouldn't have said anything. It seems like a pretty freak chain of events that led to the accident, which could lead to an initial false conclusion of fault. I just wonder how soon before the other driver entered the intersection that the light turned green. To me, the timing sounds like she should have been driving a lot slower than when she hit Venus' SUV.
Watch the video.
Watching the video and there's nothing "freak" about it. The driver clearly is at fault in what I imagine is a rather common occurrence.
Very poorly handled by the police. Also makes the lawsuit look worse.
heading out to Spiderboy shortly. At the newly refurbished local theater -- reserved fancy seats and the whole nine yards, with a ginormous screen (this was an old theater with a balcony). Looking forward to checking out the retrofit.
We're counting down to Dunkirk, Younger Daughter the history major wants to see it on the IMAX and there's one in Maple Grove so can of corn.
Yeah, I wanna see that too. When do we leave?
Everyone Harry Styles fans?
We're going July 21st, The 70mm IMAX version is actually getting released on the 19th, but Daughter has to work.

Fighting is Illogical. Fighting not make one great.
To Edinburgh tonight (new Norwegian Air flight from H'istan to EDI) and then to Invergarry, then Isle of Skye.
On the way out, I'm planning on taking NBBW on a secret mission (i.e. not telling her what we're doing) over to
Falkirk Wheel.
What kind of shoes does one wear when trotting the globe?
Birkenstocks with grey sox
Update to the Venus Williams car crash story.
