Like every Christmas Eve, I am running the show at work til we close at 4:00. Bought some Bone-in Prime Ribs that I am cooking for the employees who all work today. Highlight, is a past co-worker of mine always stops in on Christmas Eve as a pit stop from his Eagan to Grand Forks trip. We do sell a lot of gift cards, but every year, this is the lowest stress day of work and I love it.
Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays to all of my WGOM friends!
We had prime rib with the wife's family last night, the meat was tender and the au jus was savory and delicious. The chipped beef and green onion cheese ball got a lot of my attention, too. Also, OMNI Muddy Runner coconut porter. Yum.
Smoking a standing rib roast today. Noodle kugel, asparagus, salad. St. Bernardus Christmas Ale.
So, we had a Bent Paddle tap event earlier this week. They brought a small keg of their Bourbon Barrel Aged Double Shot Black Ale. Drinks very much like a Imperial Stout. Very tasty, as well as their Valve Jockey #3 Session Barleywine. I will have one of each before I depart this afternoon. OMNI Muddy Runner is super good! The owner is from Alexandria and is a great guy!
Nog?
Snow for the second day in a row (and light enough that it melts off the street - - the best kind). We usually spend the entire afternoon/evening helping out with the church services and then an open house at friends. Some of the most satisfying Christmas Eves are those (rare) ones where I can clear sidewalks - - it is such a solumn evening and the results of the work is readily apparent.
Travel safe and have a great Christmas and holidays, Citizens
Our first Christmas together as a married couple we lived in Cedar Rapids. We had no money because we were still paying wedding bills and working cheap. We had no presents and no tree, we couldn't go home because of work/money and we couldn't even call home because we had dropped long distance service to save a few dollars a month on the phone bill. We were feeling more than a little lonely, homesick and sorry for ourselves. The day before Christmas eve, we got a package from my mom, a painted ceramic Nativity set with camels and cows and sheep, magi and angel, babe in manger, adoring mother and father, the whole works. My wife set it up and it was really the only decoration we had in our little apartment. On Christmas eve, I got home from work and there was a fine roast beef dinner on the table, we ate it by candlelight and watched an impressive snow fall against the night sky. After dinner we went to church, and after that, for no apparent reason that we can remember, we drove to the Amana Colonies. There was about four inches of new snow on everything by then, and each of the plain white houses had a single candle burning in every window, and most had an evergreen wreath on the door. We were the only people on the road, just idling along at walking pace, and everything seemed so quiet. It was like being inside a Christmas card. When we got home, even though there weren't any presents to exchange or unwrap, it didn't matter because we had each other, and there were going to be a lot of beautiful things for us to share in the years to come, and we both felt pretty lucky just to be together with the rest of our lives ahead of us. That noël 27 years ago is one of my favorite memories to this day. Merry Christmas, friends.
Beautiful story, Twayn.
Yeah, totes. Something seems to have fallen in my eye here folks. Nothing to see here. Move along.
In 1989 we were a day away from moving from LA to StL, and we'd hung the few ornaments we had on the light fixture hanging over the little kitchen table in the condo. Sometimes the simplest Christmas's are the best.
Dude. Wow.
That was beautiful and touching. Who are you and what did you do with the guy I knew in college?
The best place to be on Christmas Eve? Working at the liquor store. Everyone is happy because they are getting booze, and lot of it.
This was the first time I have ever bought booze to go on a Sunday in Minnesota. It was a great experience
What are you drinking this Christmas Eve?
Me, I picked up a 6er of Blue Point Toasted Lager. I really like the packaging so gave it a try, and its pretty good!
I had a bent paddle black ale (very good) and a bent paddle ipa (also very good).
Going to be on the Twin Cities at all? I think we need a caucus.
Founders has a new seasonal 15 pack, Azacca IPA. I've never had Azacca hops, but now I'm gonna see if the local homebrew shop carries them. Very tasty. I was also drinking my very excellent black IPA and a little Kirtland blend scotch, which is pretty decent for being dirt cheap.
Sad news on Christmas Day: R. I. P. ex-Twin Jerry Kindall, who achieved greater success as a college baseball coach, of complications from a stroke, at age 82.
Give a gift of, as my wife serendipitously malapropped, horse Mnuchin.

I cannot in good conscience condone this type of behavior, no matter how hilarious I find it to be.
Sassy!

Was on the Gophers' championship team, too
