2018 Game 16 – Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees

Fresh off getting swept for the first time in Tampa, the Twins wander into the Abattoir of the Bronx to face off against the Yankees for a four game series. The Twins have lost four straight to the Yankees, included last year's Wild Card game.

As the resident Twins optimist, here's a whole bunch more depressing stats:

  • The Yankees have won or split the last sixteen season series (14-0-2).
  • The Twins are 1-8 in their last nine regular season games in New York.
  • The Twins have not won a four game series against the Yankees since June of 1991.
  • While Tanaka is 0-2 with a 7.15 ERA in his two home starts this year, he has gotten the W in all four of his appearances against the Twins.

Hopefully typing all that will jinx it and Twins will sweep and outscore the Yanks 101-3. We'll see...

In slightly more fun stats, Mauer will tie Hrbek tonight for 3rd most games played as a Twin. After that, 36 more games to tie Kirby. Also, Dozier brings his 16 game hitting streak to New York (23 going back to last year), now the longest to start the season in Twins history.

  1. How many stadiums still have the off centerfield camera stations? After watching all the games at Target Field from the straight on cam, the old scholl off center cam is disorientating.

  2. Sounds like the Yankees are getting the benefit of the close calls. Hard to believe.

  3. First Denard Span getting hits of Twins pitching, now Aaron Hicks. Next up, Ben Revere!

  4. I very rarely check out of a game early unless I have something else going on, but tonight may be an exception.

    1. It is harder, though, if the umpire is going to make Odorizzi throw the ball over the center of the plate to get a strike. He doesn't have the stuff to be able to do that and succeed.

  5. More good news: Byron Buxton fouled a ball off his left foot yesterday and was scratched from his rehab game in Rochester tonight.

  6. Sweet god almighty, I'm treated to the YES broadcast only. I haven't seen a baseball game in 2 weeks, and now I get these buffoons?!?!?!!? Blarf.

    1. ESPN guys razzing a Yankees fan for wearing a "Doziers streaks ends today" (or something to that effect) shirt hahaha

      1. Just switched back to the Twins and saw that. Now he's putting a Yankees jersey and coat back on over his shirt. Dude, if you're going to do something like that, own it!

  7. YES guys asking if Joe Mauer is a hall of famer. Interesting discussion, but if he wore pinstripes there wouldn't be any ifs, ands, or buts.

  8. Rochester won the second game of its doubleheader with Gwinnett 2-1. Casey Crosby, who did not play at all in 2015-2016 and was with Lincoln in the American Association in 2017, got his first professional save (the Arizona Fall League excepted).

  9. Gets home after a long day...

How are the Timberwolves doing? Huh.
    How about the Twins? Ugh.

Settles in for end of Maples Leafs v. Bruins.

  10. The Twins got an hour head start, yet Timberwolves started and finished a game of basketball an the Twins are still playing.

  11. I'm still trying to figure out why the Twins preferred Kinley to Nick Burdi or J. T. Chargois.

  12. The Yankees have won or split the last sixteen season series (14-0-2).

Hey, grammar nerds, is that right? Series? Serieses? Serii?
