The Twins keep talking about needing more length out of their starters. There's truth in that, but they certainly shouldn't have been surprised by a short start last night. That should have been planned for.
When a guy is dominating and has allowed just 1 hit through 6 innings, maybe they shouldn't pull after just 94-95 pitches either. Molly did that twice on that roadtrip.
Solo home runs can't hurt you.
Odo had started every batter with a fastball. The first time he starts a batter with a curveball, the guy not only swings at it, he obviously is sitting on curveball and hits it out. This is a mind-boggling game at times.
Gameday is easily 30-45 seconds ahead of the broadcast. Seems like the squawkers were ahead a couple of years ago. Must be censoring the play-by-play.
Fun Fact! In his career, when Joe Mauer gets to a 3-0 count, he is slashing .333/.984/.500/1.484. That is 2-6 with 302 walks in 311 PA.
Add another one.
Does that mean he's been HBP 3 times on 3-0?
Could be sac flies too.
Or sac bunts!!
Had to look it up, he has two HBP and one sac fly in 3-0 counts.
This would be a great inning to score a run or 8.
Thank you. Please score more in other innings.
Wiggle wiggle.
Odo's pitch count still good.
We're ahead and it's an official game. Any chance it could rain out before we lose the lead?
GARVER!
So, who's confident that the bullpen will hold this lead?
Nice extinguishing by Duke
A few insurance runs here would be welcome.
Well, time for the Fernando Rodney Experience.
Sounds like an early 70's peace band.
Two outs to go!
OMG FRod.
One out to go!
Ha - Gameday briefly said no out, then changed it. I saw what you did there...
tWINs !
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK Rodney, you can't wash those socks now.
In the radio postgame, and other times as well, the Twins announcers have really been touting Mitch Garver's defense. I haven't seen him enough to know how good he is, but it makes me wonder if we aren't going to see him gradually take over more of the catching duties. If so, I'm in favor of it.
I was thinking on the bunt single that it should have been his play and he wasn't close to it. I haven't been all that impressed with his defense. Makes me wonder how bad it used to be. Then again, I haven't been all that impressed with Castro's defense that he should be out there all the time while being an almost automatic out.
That was the Rodney I was expecting to experience. Shaky control but very hard to hit.
Great to see Odo come through and help stop the streak. I thought Molly was a little quick in pulling him but I get that he didn't want a tiring starter to face the tying run when the team has lost 8 straight, even though it was the bottom of the order due up. Good news is Berrios tomorrow to go for the series win. Also, the Twins have not lost a series that they didn't get swept in.
No Sano today.
That first half-inning smelled nice.
