The AL Central is 46 games under .500 just over a quarter of the way into the season.

AMR, by chance I brought my boys to Springbrook Nature Center yesterday and there was a bird banding event going on. We all got a turn at releasing the birds after they'd been examined. Seems like the sort of thing you'd enjoy.
A question inspired by jelly*:
How do you explain (to, say, an older relative) the main themes of Michael Pollan's work without sounding like someone with a economically-sheltered lifestyle to sell, a disgruntled agrarian with an axe to grind, or a tinfoil haberdasher?
Our conversation got to Pollan in roundabout fashion: talking about the ingredients of the three different kinds of preserves/jelly in our fridge, which led to Pollan through his "if your grandma wouldn't recognize the ingredients on the label" bit.
I quoted pollan to my FiL once, and I’m pretty sure he stopped listening just after the words left my mouth.
I do frequently use the eat stuff, mostly vegetables, not too much line.
To your question, I have no idea because the moment you begin talking about food as a thought experiment you start sounding like a jerk who doesn’t understand privilege.
Yeah, it’s a really sticky wicket. I agree with the guy on most of his principles, but the reality of lower-middle class & working class food budgets means a lot of it comes off as pretty pie-in-the-sky. Which I’m guessing Pollan understands, and which is a fair criticism of the roles agribusiness, multinational food manufacturers, lobbyists, and Congress play in what food people have access to.
Anyone looked at yesterday's Marlins/Braves game? How often does a guy lead off the bottom of the ninth and strikeout, and then later hit the game winning hit that same inning?
Big story today is Gardy returns to Target Field. The only players on the active roster to have played with Gardy as manager: Dozier, Escobar, Hughes, Gibson and Pressly.
Mauer is "a little better" than he was a couple days ago. Doesn't sound very promising to me. It sounds a lot like the updates we got the first time he had concussion symptoms. Hopefully, they weren't nearly as severe to begin with.
In Chuck Klosterman’s first book, he wrote about dancing with a girl at the SBGville Centennial. This was always my favorite part of that book. The girl in question is my second cousin, once removed. A shirt tail relative, but she grew up on a farm right next to my grandparents.
She grew up to be a veterinarian and an avid angler. She and her husband traveled to Iceland for a fishing trip this week and I saw stories from Iceland on her Facebook account. Unfortunately, tragically, she fell out of their boat yesterday into icy waters. Her husband dove in help her.
They both died.
Oof. That is sad.
Sorry to hear about your family's loss, Stick. It seems lately like every time I start to feel down about my own situation, I hear or read something that makes me realize how fortunate I've been and continue to be. Gentle reminders from the Universe, I suppose.
Wow. What a terrible thing. The family is in our prayers.
holy crap.
So sorry for your loss.
Garlic chili BBQ pork loin and roasted asparagus for dinner tonight. Aquinas having a baseball game last night pushed dinner plans back a night. Asparagus fresh from the garden (not ours, but a client's).
Is a sauce/marinade recipe forthcoming?
My wife bought me a rub for my birthday, so I used that, and just let it sit on the meat in the fridge beforehand. Traeger Rub. It was good. It will be very good on chicken too.
After that, I did the thing where you roast it at 350 for 20 - 25 minutes per lb, the remove it and let it sit for a half hour or so, then blast it at 450 to finish it off. I had never done that before, but it was perfect. I also used some halved onions and golden delicious apples for the pork to rest on instead of a rack, and then added some more before the finishing heat, with a little oil and sherry.
Asparagus was oil and diced garlic, roast for 10 minutes at 450, then melt mozzarella over the top. That was amazing, but go figure with those ingredients.

Whoa, hey. Let's keep it PG-13 here.
and just let it sit on the meat
mmm, hmm.
I made BBQ chicken pizza last night (its good, haters). I bought a family pack of leg quarters, but only used one of the six. So I flipped the rest of those into chicken biryani tonight.
Finishing menu development for our next menu today. Played with Huli Huli chicken, and I think I found a winning taco for the menu. Yum!
Juan Soto, a prospect for the Nationals, does a Rosario and homers to the opposite field on the first pitch he sees in MLB. The one difference: he's 19!
Hey hey, that's an Andre David.
Soto struck out in his first plate appearance yesterday. He homered on the first pitch he saw in today's game though.
Whoa, Hughes DFA’d.
I'm not surprised, he doesn't really have a role here anymore. We'll see if anybody thinks he's still got gas in the tank.
He'll be a better pitcher in the National League, and in a big ballpark. San Fran?
I've heard it suggested Tigers because of his relationship with Rick Anderson.
The twins facing Hughes a few times will heal the lack of offense quick.
