Not sure why I've been linking to videos so far rather than just embedding them. Sorry about that.
#3: Hrbek and Harper turn 3-2-3 Double Play
We talked about this play last week as well. One thing I noticed this time watching it is what a seemingly atrocious swing Bream put on that ball. I wonder if he was fooled by the pitch.
#14 Dave Winfield collects his 3,000th hit
I was not watching this when it happened, nor did I ever get much into Dave Winfield. I apologize if this seeding is too low. Bremer seemed really excited, though.

He better have been fooled. His whole top half was bailing way out of the box.
I don't think you have Winfield seeded too low. Just my opinion, but as great a player as he was, he was at the end of his career by the time he came to the Twins and really didn't do much for them. The 3000th hit was nice, but it really was just something to root for to keep us interested in a lost season.
Yeah, and it's not like he had most of hits with the Twins anyway. The main reason it feels like a Twins achievement at all is because he's from Minnesota.
That really was a smooth as silk double play. All of the angles in a 3-2-3 are tricky, and that one was flawless.
And yeah, terrible swing. All arms.
Dave's was worse, but blind squirrels...
exactly
The better you are, the more you can get away with, even half-assed.
Does anyone else have a strong aversion to the use of full/middle names for people who don’t go by them? Richard James Bremer tossing out “David! Mark! Winfield!” like that feels so contrived in my ears.
“There it is! A long fly ball into left-center field … and it’s gonna be a hit for Eugene! Thomas! Larkin!!”
“Swing … a bouncing ball to Gary! Joseph! Gaetti! … He has it, throws to Kent! Allen! Hrbek! And the Twins are baseball’s World’s Champions!”
Serial killers, all of them.
That, and this: nobody’s career achievement should be described with the name their mother used when she was exasperated with them.
I like Marney, but I really don’t like that home run call.
don't you love your mama??
are there players that have gone by their full three names?
Van Lingle Mungo comes to mind. Dizzy Dean was sometimes referred to more formally as Jay Hanna Dean. I'm sure the nation will be able to think of others, probably some obvious ones that I'm not thinking of right now.
Does Bucky Dent qualify?
Former Twin Roy Lee Jackson. Also Jerry Don Gleaton.
John Ryan Murphy.
Derek Effin' Jeter
Different sport and a hyphen, but Karl-Anthony Towns.
No aversion. I see it as a re-emphasizing of a very individual achievement.
Who got 3k hits? This specific guy.
The other examples you list sound dumb, sure. But they aren't as individual of situations, so that's at least part of the reason why.
I doubt it was spontaneous on Dick's part, but I guess that doesn't bother me.
My recollection is that sportswriters and broadcasters did occasionally use his middle name. I know that I knew what it was, anyway, so it must have been used once in a while, at least.
