2023 Game 75: Boston Red Sox at Minnesota Twins

Garrett Whitlock
vs
Sonny Gray

The Twins have really optimized this team. Rather than waiting until September to play poorly, they now moved it up to June. The starters were second in ERA in the AL for April and fourth in May. So far in June, they are 13th. The relievers have been slightly more consistent, moving from eleventh to seventh to ninth. Scoring has gone from sixth to eleventh for May and June. It's not good.

  1. If Sonny can pitch a shutout tonight, I think we have an excellent chance to go into extra innings.

    1. Buxton went the opposite way and Kepler got a hit up the middle. It would be nice to see more of that.

  2. Twins have given up triples in 3 of the last 4 games, 4 triples total.

    thats a lot!

      1. Honestly. I can kind of see why the umpire on the field made that call. Maybe strictly by the book he’s supposed to see the tag before making an out call, but he was totally shielded from the tag “attempt” and just sort of went off of the vibes that you would generally have expected that play to be made based on their body positioning.

But the replay officials? Fire them into the sun. Didn’t make a tag, didn’t touch the base. It’s not even a question of timing.

This. The crowd was absolutely, and rightfully. livid about the replay call last night. I think we need to start a Boo the Blue campaign for all home games going forward.
