Note 2: To self. Stop picking Bob Feller for anything.

I’ve got to decide whether to keep logging these; if there was a time to call it a career, it’s now. Two days ago I failed for the first time after a series of embarrassingly dumb guesses, then rebounded with a three yesterday and today managed to fail for the second time ever. Yikes, gang.
I feel like a deer in the headlights every time.
I refuse to yield until my opening word is the answer.
I suspect I’ll keep playing regardless, but I’m surprised I’ve kept up the logging even this long.
I'm still playing, but stopped logging. Occassionally I'll note my result.
I quit logging after a year, and only come back to post a two every so often.
Two grids today, second one at noon
Programming Note. We'll be running two games for July 11th, one updating at midnight and one around 11:30am ET.

I'm so old that I think of the Rays, Diamondbacks, and Marlins as expansion teams!
But not the Rockies?
To quote Don Draper: I don't think of you at all
I have a couple go-to players for the Rays. And a couple other teams. But digging deep on those ones is tough.
I was still heavily invested in baseball card collecting when the first sets were issued with Rockies & Marlins players. I had moved on by the time the next round of collusion settlements expansion hit, and find the early Diamondbacks much more memorable than the early Devil Rays.
New 7/11/2023: If one of the stats is a rate stat (BA, ERA, etc.), the player must have qualified for the season’s rate stat leaderboards.
That was fast. Kinda wish FanGraphs would’ve picked it up. My enthusiasm for Sports Reference has cooled considerably since Stathead was launched.
As much as I like FanGraphs, I still find Baseball Reference vastly better for perusing players and going through baseball history.
I wonder if they will launch a similar grid for other sports

Forman confirmed on Reddit that other sports will happen.
Another welcome change: I had been wishing there was a list of the most common right answers for a while, so I was glad to see that on today's grid. The link to the full list of correct answers is a nice touch, too.
You could see the most popular answers before but it was gated behind another click after finishing. I also appreciate the list of every possible answer now being available.

One of the things I love is when the only players (or the first players, at least) I can think of end up being really low scores. Both of my 2%er this time, I thought of, figured they'd be high percents, and then they weren't. A nice suprise.
Hah, looking at the most popular answers, I totally conflated two players in my head. They were only in the league together 1 year, but in my mind it's just been the same player this whole time.

I probably pay less attention to ROY than any of the other major single-season awards. Some of the big ones stick with me, or I might remember a team won a string g of them (Dodgers in the mid-late 1990s). Other than that, it feels like a crap shoot.
Also, Diamondbacks-era Jay Bell must’ve been training with Bret Boone in the off-season.
I’ve reached a point where I’m playing every day but I know I can think of someone for each slot if I give it the time, and therefore the day inevitably ends with some sitting at 6-8 complete with guesses left.

Sabotaged myself early by being incorrectly convinced that one pitcher won gold gloves, and another struck out 200.

I left my plane on auto-pilot circling around the Carolinas. You weren't able to fly me back to my plane, so you landed me in Arkansas. Who else is very surprised this morning to find out two particular Mariners didn't win ROY
I was 0-for-2 on those and quit. I know nothing.
Problem was I had already used one of the correct answers on another square
I did the ROY first, so avoided that problem, and only got 1 wrong on that.
I took three swings (King Felix being the third) and struck out.
