October 27, 2012: The Family A

story by nibbish

“Order.” said the chairman. “The meeting of the A's will come to order. First and most importantly, how is the flock doing?”

“Quite well. I've got the next four sermons written, and the follow six outlined. Mrs. Grayson is still sick with bronchitis, so I've coordinated with the prayer circle, and we're bringing her every manner of soup and attending to her needs. The Thursday evening bible study is currently halfway through Galatians, and the Mother's Club wants to repaint the youth room's walls.” reported Pastor A.

“What color?”

“Taupe.”

“Ew.”

“That's what the board of elders said, but I did say that it didn't necessarily cause any harm. I believe that there will be no internal strife because of it.”

“Good, good. Do you have a report for us, Husband A?”

Husband A looked up from his meeting agenda. “Nothing much to report. Still a blessing. Still good days and bad - many more good than bad.”

“Sounds good, how goes the baseball world, GOMer?”

“It goes very well. We're entering a very busy time of year for me.” replied GOMer A.

“But I thought the Twins didn't make the playoffs?” said the chairman.

“Well, that's true, but there are several winter instructional leagues that have players that are affiliated with the team. Why, in the Venezuelan winter league alone, there are...”

“Okay, we don't need to get unto full detail.” the chairman said “Are there any noteworthy happenings?”

“Well...” GOMer A fidgeted in his seat “They sort of dedicated an entire week to me.”

“Oh?”

“Yes. Since Sunday, they've been peppering me with praise for the various things I do to enrich the community. It's been a bit of a shock, really, the impact things have had on the members of the community. All week, they've been raving about the positive impact that I've made on them. No matter their creed or personal beliefs, they've been absolutely adamant that I've changed their lives for the better.”

“I thought you simply updated them on the comings and goings of the Arizona fall league and maintained the birthday posts every day.”

“It would seem that to them I've done a great deal more than that.”

The room was silent for a bit, considering the impact GOMer A had on his peers on the online community. Sensing the moment was about to get sappy, the chairman broke the silence.

“Now for our tactical espionage report. I believe some members of the baseball site had reported suspicion last month, do we have a follow up on that?”

“There were rumors,” said Spy A “but their doubts were allayed.”

“No one suspects the truth?”

“No one”

“How is that even possible? Surely no one actually believes that one person could pull this all off by himself.”

“They do. I don't know how, but they but they do.”

“Good, good. I believe that concludes our business for the day. I'll entertain a motion to adjourn?”

“So moved.” said Pastor.

“Do I have a second?”

“Seconded.” piped Spy.

“This meeting is adjourned. See you next week, gentlemen. Keep the faith and continue the good work. You're doing a great job.”

This concludes Jeff A week at the WGOM, but hey, every week is Jeff A week at the WGOM. Padre, once more, thanks for everything you bring to the site.

    1. Remember Hurricane Sandy - Good thing the Yankees lost the ALCS!

If the Yankees were in the World Series this year, would they:
      a) Play in a Neutral Stadium
      b) Play in the Gints' Stadium
      c) Push the WS back a few days
      d) Have the Gints forfeit those three games?

        1. f) Play games 6-7 as scheduled, return to NYC next week to play games 3-5 if necessary.
          g) Same as (f) but games only available on MLB Network due to broadcast partners' scheduling obligations.

  1. A scouting report on Kyle Gibson.

He is on his way to being a true number one starter, a legitimate top of the rotation stopper type guy.

That's over the top for a guy seeing one five-inning outing in the AFL, but it's been a long time since anyone has said that about a Twins prospect.

    1. I wonder if the Twins learned from the Nats/Strasburg deal this year (if that is the plan of attack for Gibson). It might be wise to start Gibson later in the year so he is available for the World Series.

  2. Last night, our temple gave us a blessing for our five-year anniversary (actually a week from today). However, the temple was also giving out a social justice award to Justice Alan Page for all his work with the Page Education Foundation. There were some pretty big names there to honor Justice Page, and quite a few of them came up to congratulate Sheenie and me as well. It was pretty crazy to receive anniversary congratulations from Jim Marshall, Leslie Frazier, Senator Klobuchar, and Governor Dayton among others.

  3. in case anyone was worried that this whole thing was pulled off way too successfully, don't worry: the parcel sent to the pastor was appropriately half-baked:

      1. "I talked to my taxidermist, and I'm going to have it mounted and put it on the wall next to my walleyes."

I can say with some certainty that this feller is either 1) not married or 2) said wall is in a man-only space where she doesn't travel.

        1. I know more than one woman from Minnesota who wouldn't mind a mount like that on the wall. Wait, that didn't come out right.

  4. A month ago, I brewed my Oktoberfest and have been waiting impatiently for this day. I made a lot of little mistakes with my previous batch (Black IPA) but was able to cover them up, and it was fantastic. This time, with the Okto, everything went perfectly. I couldn't wait to crack it open to bottle it.

When I opened it, it smelled...not unlike sewage. I frantically looked around for answers. In the corner of the box, there it was - I'd forgotten to pitch the yeast. Oh, for the love...

  5. I got the banner

The Twins should have a promotion. Every fifth day, hold a random drawing among the fans in attendance. Whoever the lucky fan is gets to start on the mound that day. -Jeff A 8/25/2011

and realized that the Starting pitchers showing are the 2012 "Rotation".
    The more things change, eh?

      1. As long as I can make it to Mes Que tomorrow. Everton-Liverpool at 9:30 (a little early probably) and Chelsea-ManU at 12. Bonus for you if you're free - Spurs are on at 11.

  6. True freshman QB Phillip Nelson has three TD passes of at least 34 yards for the Gophers in the first half against Purdue. He missed his first pass and completed 11 straight. Gophers lead 28-7, their first lead in four Big Ten games.

    1. Gophers CB Michael Carter breaks up four passes on the opening drive of the second half, and then finished the drive with a Pick 6. Gophers now up 41-7.

      1. I love how the announcers couldnt even finish the thought of 'dont throw the ball that way' and it was pick 6ed

    1. Further thought: If I were Cabrera, I would ask for the ceremony to be held preceding the WS Parade or something like that.
