  1. If there was an eleventh star to click, I would have. You tossed this one right in my wheelhouse sir!

  2. i have to take small exception with this clip. was it a very technically minded, well-played cover of the song? most definitely yes. did weezer do something different with it, or make the song in any way their own? definitely not. this was basically live band karaoke to me (though rivers did manage to sing it without a faux british accent, something i can never do). i think we had this conversation sometime back on the ye olde WGOM, but i think a good cover is when you absorb it into yourself, and return with something fresh. some classic examples being "woodstock" by CSNY and "all along the watchtower" by hendrix, or modern ones like devo doing "satisfaction", or, hell, even ben harper doing "sexual healing".

i'd probably think it was pretty sweet if they busted this out at a live show i was at, but i still think they could have done a lot more with this.

    1. Agreed completely. I think this song is Radiohead's magnum opus. I wish that I could a very technically minded, well-played cover of it - so I don't know that anything would satisfy me, but this doesn't seem to aspire to be anything more than that.

      Still, it's an incredible song.

    2. Have they been playing this in concert? Perhaps this vid here is to give fans who either missed the concerts to see hear the song, or for those who caught it in concert to relive it. Worth releasing as a single? No way. Decent enough for a B-side? Surely.

    3. Yeah, well I'm not sure what else any band could do with this particular song other than play it mostly as it was originally recorded. I did read that they have played it in concert and it sounded great. I picture them sitting around one day thinking "what masterpiece out there would be a mega challenge to cover?" They pick this song and puzzle it out... something I would guess most bands would fall far short of accomplishing. I think the vocals change the song pretty significantly and even though the guitars are oh so close to hitting note for note, there is still an essence of Weezer seeping in. I think the original is the bomb, but I think Weezer shows off some technical chops they normally don't get credit for in the critical circles. I have always thought these guys can play and it was good to see them show it. I stand by my "11".

    1. I've tried knowing more and upon deep reflection, I'm quite indifferent.
Some decent songs, but there's so much that I'd much rather listen to.

Much like the Beatles, I can appreciate what they're doing and how they're visionary yet still find the music failing to strike anything within me.

    2. Start with The Bends and OK Computer. Those two are must haves and both rock pretty hard. Amnesiac and In Rainbows are secondary in importance but pretty damn good, dig into those after the first two. Kid A is maligned but I like it for its vibe; Hail to the Thief is good too IMHO, but only if you want to be a completist. Stay away from Pablo Honey, but download the song Creep of course. The last album is more ambient, I have mixed opinions and it hasn't really grabbed me yet.

      1. Do they still play "Creep"? Might as well have been a different band.
I think I found The Bends to be my favorite.

      2. i agree with the bends and OK computer as a start, in that order as well. never really got into the whole kid A/amnesiac thing (i always think of this whenever i say that), but i really liked hail to the thief. in rainbows is on the ipod, but i haven’t really given it much of a shot yet. “bodysnatchers” is a pretty sweet tune though.

        1. also, i'm not sure you can call kid A maligned as it's one of the most heralded albums of its time (though perhaps not initially).

          1. Good point. Maligned may be the wrong word. It certainly has divided people over the years with supporters gaining the upper hand over time.

            1. Oh no doubt Pitchfork loved it but many many fans of OK Computer were turned off at first by Kid A. Is still have a friend who shudders when he thinks back to rushing off to buy Kid A when it was first released and then listening to it for the first time. He's still scarred by the experience although he reluctantly come to understand it's a pretty good album.

      3. I was just listening to King of Limbs today. I definitely like it (I didn't initially), it's just not anywhere near as good as... well... anything they've done since Pablo Honey. It ends up being sort of background music for me, which is not something I'd generally slate Radiohead music as.

        1. I'm absolutely loving King of Limbs. Thing is, though, only one or two of the songs ever stick in my head. I can't tell if it's good or bad that I need to listen to it every couple of days to remember it. I'd also say it's markedly better than Amnesiac. I never got into that one.

          1. Amnesiac is golden to me, if only for "You and Whose Army?" and especially "Pyramid Song". "Pyramid Song" might be my favorite thing they've ever done.

So, if I'm guessing which songs stick in the head, they've got to be "Little By Little" and "Codex", right? "Codex" is right up there with "Pyramid Song" and "Reckoner" for me.

  3. This video now has 9 votes. I hope no one else watches the video lest I get sued. Thanks.

    1. Weezer uploaded it themselves. I don't know though if they have permission from Radiohead.

      1. Well, I watched the video yesterday and voted on it today. So that should at least save me one view.

          1. I don't see anything against it on the "behave yourself" tab.

          2. That was the only way I could get a respectable rating during my guest DJ week a while back.
